New wheels - what do you think?

Hello everyone!

Today I tested to install the 997 wheels from my neighbor on my 996.
It was no problem - everything fits.

Actually I have the Porsche 17 mm spacers on the rear axle.
Nothing is grinding (I drove along a street full of road holes quite fast and climbed an increase).

What do you think?
Are the spacers exaggerated? The protection strip is protruding about 2 milimeters.
The rear will probably look a bit slim without the distance rings..

Best regards, Cade

P.S.: The general size for 18" wheels is 225/40 + 265/35 R18.
The 997 has this size: 235/40 und 265/40 R18.
Would the tire equipment be problematical?
The diameter in the front is a little bit bigger. But on the other hand the understeering in tight curves is said to disappear.
But the rolling circumference on the back is about 2 inches bigger... Will it influence the ABS or the handling?

P.P.S.: Here are some pics:

Like the look but the rear looks a little too far out there. Maybe try posting clearer or more side pics.

Aloha

Nothing wrong with 997 wheels on 996's...i have 19's and they are no problem...I would remove the spacer....they will actually fit more aggressively than 996 rears because of the offset.

If I remove the spacers, the problem is the axle is 10 mm smaller on each side as with the 996-18-inch-wheels.

Offset 18" 996: -65 mm + 17 mm (spacers) = -48 mm
Offset 18" 997: -58

The back could look a bit to "slim"... Or what do you mean?

P.S.: Newport, which tires do you have? Are your wheels (resp. diameter/rolling circumference) also bigger?

i mean, the 997 wheels will stick out 7mm more than the stock 996 wheels. I have 235/35/19 and 295/30/19's....

Hmm, yes... I think, I´ll try it on the weekend what it looks like without the spacers.

The deviation is not as big as with my tires (1,5 and 2,1%).

Do you feel any difference in the handling?

Overall I really like the look of the wheels. If you don't mind, how much were they?

Are you sure you diam up front is bigger? Doesnt make sense according to your info.

Going from memory, according to PCA you have a 4% error or more before PSM, ABS will start getting confused you getting close to that:

Tire Size Comparison
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
235/40-18 3.7in 12.7in 25.4in 79.8in 794 0.0%
265/40-18 4.2in 13.2in 26.3in 82.8in 765 3.7%

since the rear is wider than the front it is better that the profile should be smaller, such as 265/35-18.

As the difference is within the 4,0%, I don´t think there would be a problem - right?

My neighbor wants to sell the set for ~1100$. The price is very good.

I will post some better pictures when I have a holiday again and got my camera back (the other pics where taken with my cellphone).

Whats the offset of those rears (ET number stamped on inside).....if you put 17mm spacers on, subtract that from the ET and there's the offset you are running (it's too low )
