I just had my OEM cats replaced by the dealer at no charge. So if you have bad cats there is no $$$ to pay for the service.

Service rep. told me that if you have a bad cats your engine light will come on. He had see some 996 with bad cats with 25K miles or less.

 

Feds have specific requirements for emissions related parts warranties, beyond what the manufacturers warranty is on the car as a whole. Definitely worth a try. Your owners manual should have a section on emissions warranties.

 

So did your CEL come and that's how you knew about the cat, or was there something else that caused you to have the dealer check it out?

 

Actually, it happened on a run that I had with 6Speeders. I heard something sound like a loose pieces behind my car. So I checked it out, it was more like a rattling sound. So I was on my knees and put my ear next to cats while the engine was running. Bang! That's it. Just to make sure I used a hammer and bang on the cats. Later, I saw my CEL on .

 

10 yrs/100k miles on all emissions equipment, incld cats. They are 1495 each from porsche for a 996 na.

yep, it's got 60k miles though, runs great. 47k stone stock except for oem ssk
