What do you guys recommend for a tripod? Want to spend about $40-50.

$40-$50 bucks... get a nicer one than that, you need a good beefy tripod, if you got an SLR... if you got a point & shoot, try here: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation

Thanks Redridge, I have a Canon P&S and looked at that one last week but read reviews that it's too plasticky and will break quick. Do you have the same one? What do you think of it if you do?

Porschenut911,
Personally, I bought one similar and Its crap. Why risk an expensive investment on a cheap stand... the slightest nudge will tip these things, its just a matter of time that it will happen.
I would get this at the minimum: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation. You need a steady tripod if you gonna do long exposures. You will most likely upgrade cameras in the future, but tripods...not really, unless you buy the $50 ones.
This is what i finally bought http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...goryNavigation

Yeah...I have a few....My normal one is this:

http://www.bogenimaging.us/product/t...=2&itemid=2925

its very stable plus the center column can be removed so it lays flat or anywhere in between.....

it does not come with a head, so I use this 3 way head with a quick release plate....

http://www.bogenimaging.us/product/t...d=7&itemid=273

I think they totaled up to about $150....

Thanks guys but I don't think I'll be using it as much as others so no need so spend a lot of money on it. I opted for this one, I think it has all the things I need and good for an amateur.
