New Clutch / Flywheel Issues
New Clutch / Flywheel Issues
1999, 996. Anyone have info on replacing the clutch and having issues with the flywheel? I heard about having to resurface/replace the flywheel when replacing the clutch? Anyone have experinece/thoughts on this?

If the flywheel is not burned or scored and is true, there is not a need to turn it down. However, turning it down if desired is fine. It most case, turning it is not needed and a waste of money and effort. Just check that no springs are broken and that the wheel operates within specs.

Dual-mass flywheels would have to be turned down by a machinist and not a typical mechanic(from what I know)
A dual mass flywheel has essentially 2 masses(dual mass) sandwiched together. If the masses are the bread, the meat of the saandwich is a rubber type compound that is used to diminish vibrations and chatter.
If you put these flywheel on a standard brake/flywheel lathe, the flywheel is impossible to be held perfectly center due to this rubber compound.
Im not saying it can't be done, but it's a risk if you dont have the proper equipment

i find as my clutch/LWF wears, driveability is starting to become an issue. i might need a new clutch, new flywheel surface or both. it's starting to become too grabby.
