X74 Suspension Installed

First reaction. WOW. Its pretty much awesome. The car is currently sitting at 25 7/8" front and 25 5/8" rear (floor to fender). It looks incredibly low compared to before with the US M030 where I was sitting at 27" front and 26 3/4" rear. Seems to be about an 1.5" front drop and a little under 1" drop in the rear. I'm assuming as it settles that I might get another half inch or so drop.

Personally I'm going to be amazed at how 11" rear wheels will actually fit in the wheel wells.

The car gained a much flatter feel to it. The handling seems a lot tighter and I definately can feel much more of the road. The ride harshness is negligible. I repeat, anybody who is afraid of getting this suspension because of harshness fear not. It doesn't really feel much harsher to me than the US M030 which didn't feel harsh at all. I just drove only 20 miles on it, so my impressions are very premature, but nonetheless the roads weren't great in the woods of PA and NJ.

The suprising thing for me was how much the front end tightened up. Before with the US M030 it almost felt sloppy at times, now it seems to be much tighter and more precise.

My only complaint has to do with the dealer not setting the max toe angle [20 degree lock] (front) to the X74 specs (he used the GT3 specs).

Also to anybody else with the suspension: Did you get much of a drop as it broke in over the first few hundred miles?

Sounds great. What wheels are you going with?

Well I am probably going to buy something along the lines of the 545R but in 18" with the front 8.5" wide and the rear 11" wide.

Sticking 235/40/18 and 295/30/18 on them, though I'm considering going to a 305 in the rear with appropriate adjustment to the front size for rolling diameter.

My car was at 25" all the way around but I haven't measured recently. I will when I get the car back after the exhaust install.

Adam,
I assume you bought from Gert. Did you use the settings which he supplied. I ordered mine and plan on using his settings, unless there's a better alternative.

He didn't give me any settings with the package. I didn't ask for them though since I found the X74 Suspension settings suggested by Porsche. Two of those settings were pretty extreme though and the dealer opted not to comply. I believe it was the Toe Difference Angle (20 degree lock) and the Camber on the Front tires. I believe the Camber is -30 minutes +/- 15. The dealer did -11 minutes.

Yep, I bought from Gert though. Also I should note that the process went extremely well, and Gert gave me a lot of info through numerous emails. Definately a GREAT person to do business with as many people here know.

I ended up going to the dealership primarily because I was stuck without a ride. So I rented a car for the day and left it there overnight.

Holbert Porsche charged me $670 for the installation and alignment. I believe it was about $500 install, and $150 alignment or so plus taxes.

Not a bad price for a dealer considering the independent shop was going to charge me around $600 + taxes ($400-500 install and $100 alignment)

Adam,
You are right about the price. I got one of $500-600 from my local independent, the dealer quoted $1100. Needless to say, its independent for me. This guy has a great reputation, I went over there today and they were working on at least 5 P-cars. I’m planning to bring the car in Tuesday morning and picking it up that evening. I just hope FedX delivers on Monday.

Mike,

Sounds good. You're gonna love the suspension. Just wait until they drive the car around for you to pick it up and you get a look at the ride height. Then once you get in and drive it you'll be in heaven.

Adam,
Is there a firmness adjustment on the struts, and if so, are they easy to get at once installed?

The X74 isn't adjustable. On the other hand I really doubt you are going to want to adjust it. My car is my primary vehicle so for me I didn't really care about adjustability. At some point in the near future I'll be purchasing a track car, so for me my C2 is just a really fun road car.
