996 C2s?
996 C2s?
The 993 series included a Carrera 2S. A wide body, rear drive, “S” car. I loved that car. I also love the 996 C4S, however, not the added weight of all wheel drive, which is pretty much useless in South Florida on a sunny day. So, my latest nutty idea is to start looking into converting my C2 into a “C2S” look by grafting C4S rear bodywork onto my car.
What are the differences in the rear bodywork other than the rear quarters and the bumper? I imagine the tail lights are also different? What about the rear deck? What side rockers will fit? And, rear wheel size grows to 11 inches with a spacer or no spacer? Ultimately, I’d like to see my car wearing that C4S phat *** topped off with a Misha GT2 Wing. Then I’ll SC it and keep it forever.
Your thoughts?

Go here, I don't think their online store is up yet with their site redesign, but I visited their site before and they have both ncarbon fiber arrow and wide body rear 3/4 panels for sale at a reasonable price. I don't know if that will affect the integrety of the vehicle though, as I believe they are race parts.

You can also just call them and ask. I think it was like $700-$1K for the pair...

I would except that an SC seems to be better suited to the kind of driving I do where torque down low is important. I've driven a TT and don't like the lag.
Aesthetically, I find the C4S a far more beautiful car - especially without those big holes in the rear quarters. Plus, an SCed C2 is faster than Turbo, lighter, rear drive, and, hence, less complicated. Like Dr. P said "I couldn't find a sports car of my dreams, so I built it." I wish they had built a 996 C2S. Since they didn't, I guess I'm going to have to build it. Then SC it. Or, maybe buy a GT2? What are those going for?
If an 02 face lift can be had for 4 - 5K, a C4S rear clip has to be less. It would certainly give me a unique car....

What's wrong with a C4S *** transplant?

For the rear bumper you'll need a C4S adapter for the exhaust tips (note that the C2 exhaust tips end at the outer edge of the rear bumper, while they are more centered on all wide body 996 models.
Bumper installation will be cheap (they're on Ebay quite often) and easy.

If you want to install other side rockers (e.g. TechArt style) then these will go on top of the standard side rockers.

Well, to start with... installing the rear quarters is not an easy job. You'll need a highly professional bodyshop to get that done in an acceptable manner, since the current quarters will need to be CUT OUT from the chassis.

Yes, they are.
The rear deck is indeed different. The metal panel between the rear window and the lid is also different. To swap it, the current panel needs to be cut off from the body which (again) should be done by a qualified body shop. The deck lid is obviously different and you will be surprised how expensive the simple red reflector strip is.
The side rockers are part of the rear quarters and make the installation of the rear quarters extra tricky. Look at widebody 996 models and you'll see that the side rockers are seamlessly connected to the rear quarters.
If you want to install other side rockers (e.g. TechArt style) then these will go on top of the standard side rockers.
The good news is: You don't need spacers. Once the fat *** is installed, the offset of the C4S rear rims will fit exactly...
My thoughts? ... Let's see: 4 rims, 4 tires, 2 rear side quarters (incl. side rockers), 1 metal panel (where the 3rd brake light is installed), 2 new tail lights, 1 new deck lid, 1 reflector strip, 1000 little bits and pieces, labour and paint... plus depreciation of your C2 for no longer being an original P-car.
