Happy Easter everyone! While I am basically on "house arrest" because I cannot drive my car today...I am stuck at home surfing 6 speed and playing GOD OF WAR II on my PS2. Here is the story...

So Friday night...after watching GRINDHOUSE I am driving home from work. I work near an AMC that is why a bunch of us went to the movies and left our junk at the office. So I fire my baby up...and I see it....RED LIGHT FLASHING on my temp guage. Dang that cannot be a good sign. Sooo...I do the think that 90% of people DONT DO...I READ THE EFFING MANUAL so I quickly learn it means LOW COOLANT LEVEL. Dang...that aint good...well I better get my *** home pronto.

So I put put it all the way home making sure the temps never got past 190..and other than the flashing light my car was perfect. No over heating, no smoke no nothing. Just a flashing light. I call ELI and cry to him about my options...and figured its best to take it in and have it checked out.

BEGIN RANT HERE - WHY IS NO SERVICE PLACES OPEN ON WEEKENDS? I live in So Pasadena right? So I call...RUSNAK PORSCHE in PASADENA...Service and Parts are closed on SAT and SUN!!! WTF? Why are Stealerships closed on the days that majority of the people need them? So they can hustle you for a rental car thats why! Why not close service early on Tues and Wed...but be open full days SAT and SUN...because that would make too much sense...90% of people are available on Sat and Sun...but...noooo...Porsche dealers are closed. LAME! ok moving on...

I search and search...apparently there are no "reputable" Porsche places that are open on Sat. I finally find an indy that works on German makes...VW, BMW, AUDI, PORSCHE and MBZ..they open on Sat at 830AM. So I get my *** there at 815 and wait. Figured..he looks at it...nothing is wrong refills my coolant and we are good to go.....nope.

Turns out my expansion tank has about a 2" crack in it..and looks like I have been leaking for a while. There is coolant stains all down my headers and mufflers. OK...so of course this place does not have the part and cannot do anything. But I can bring it back on TUESDAY...but this is my Daily Driver...so I have to have it fixed on MONDAY...and I need to get to work...do rent a car? Call in sick...man...this SUCKS! So...I decide to take my car to not only a good reputable shop...that is fairly close to home...but most importantly close to where a couple co workers of mine live so that maybe they will pick me up and take me to work with them.

I called and spoke to Dave at TRE Motorsports in North Hollywood. Luckily he was in the office...and I find out this is a COMMON problem...and yeah bring it in...they have expansion tanks in stock it happens so much...ugh. Great first RMS and not expansion tanks cracking...So TRE opens at 8...guess where I will be at 730AM on Monday morning? Yes folks you guessed it...like I said I chose TRE for several reasons...the most compelling they are in North Hollywood, which is fairly close to me but more importantly it is close to several co workers that live in Burbank, Studio City and even Sherman Oaks. Remember I have to drive my car there...and risk the tank exploding and getting stuck on the side of the road...so distance is a huge consideration.

I will update once this is all done on Monday night...everyone keep your eyes out for coolant leaks...the average life span seems to be between 2-3 years in boxsters and 996s...ugh...I guess I aint so COOL....

AI,
Next time try Scientific Automotive in Pasadena on Walnut. I've been very happy with, although they also have the 8-5 thing going. Mckenna Porsche has a service dept open on Saturdays. Sorry about the problem. I think Cool996 is going to fedex you a blowup doll.

Yeah Scientific was the next option..but TRE made more sense to I could hitch a ride to work.

I know Scientific is top notch and very good..I also read they are a tad pricey. I mean you do get what you pay for so there...but TRE made sense as I already secured a ride to work Monday AM from a co worker that lives in Burbank. So it made sense to go to TRE this time.

as for cool's present..I can only hope its a blow up doll..it gets LONELY out here...waaaah...=( Man I need to find me a GF. I need JJ to intro me to some of her girlfriends...

Just throw some more game at JJ, maybe she'll treat you like you are the last man on earth... On second thought, I hope you get the blow up doll. Can you make your signature a little longer.

very common problem, I did mine myself...suppossedly the cap goes bad and causes the tank to overpressure and leaks... so I bought a new cap...$20

That's exactly what happens. I have the new tank to prove it!

UPDATE! Now I am COOL!
Got the car back this afternoon and wow...I am very very happy with TRE. Did a good job..and came in $50 less then the intial estimate. Paid $616 for the whole thing.

The car runs puuurfect and super cool. On the drive home...never went past the zero on 180. Maybe its in my mind...but it just seems to be running better! hahahaha...crazy..mind playing tricks on me. I am very happy!

I would recco TRE anytime. Ask for Jeremy! He totally took care of me!

Busted knuckles and cuts + ~$250 is what the DIY would have cost you........

~400 left over for your hat.

Irving,

Glad to hear your ride is fine now. I didn't realize you had problem w/ your car. I just read it today.

Funny, I just found out I have the same problem a couple days ago. I'm going to DIY. Doesn't look to hard to replace it.
