Adding Nav to a 2002 C4S?
Adding Nav to a 2002 C4S?
Might be buying a 2002 C4S from a family friend and it does not have Nav. Right now I have a 2004 S4 and I added the factory DVD Nav to it and it works amazing. Is this a possibility in the 911? We had the factory Nav in our Cayenne S (but it was an 04 and did not have the DVD based Nav). Has anyone added the Porsche factory DVD Nav to their 996? Any advice is much appreciated. TIA
I put a Pioneer AVIC-Z1 into my 2002 C2 - it's wonderful, much cheaper than the Porsche setup and does much more as well. There are a few others on this board that have gone the same way. You can also find a lot of info about this unit in www.avic411.com (there is a new version, the Z2 out now, but it's almost identical)
Don't waste your money on the Porsche unit.

Ditto.
I bought a system that was to go into my car and as it turned out, it was the wrong one. Good thing actually. Now I want the Z2 and have spent a ton of time looking into it on that other site and pioneer's home page.
Now if you want to keep the car looking stock then by all means, seek out a unit from your MY.
I have a 2000 with PCM (Nav), I thought about changing it to d DVD version as well, did some research and decided not to do it. Porsche does not make it easy to upgrade the pcm...its alot of work and money. First you have to tear apart you dash to fit the GPS reciever, find and customize all the brackets that is needed, program the cpu to tell there is a nav in place (for mileage, air con, trip etc), not to mention hardware and labor cost....your better off with aftermarket!!!! So im leaving mines stock and be happy that I have one.
