Newbie Needs Help With Purchase - '99 996 !!!
Hi guys. I am looking at a 99 996 silver/black with 49,000 miles here in Dallas, and I really want it. Asking price is $28,000. I have had M5s previously, and currently an S500 Benz (luxurious but BORING AS HELL). The car is at a dealer I have purchased 3 cars from. I drove it, loved it, and couldn't find anything really "wrong" with it from my perspective, save 3-4 very minor rock chips on the passenger front fender, and the passenger window won't fully roll down. There is about 1" sticking out when you put it down. Airbag light is also on. Car drove very well though. Interior is 95% or better. I have have positive experiences thus far with this particular dealer (no bad cars mechanically).
I'm a Porsche newbie as far as ownership goes, and having no knowledge of the idiosyncrasies for the various models and production years.
Can anyone school me on the 1999 model year? I can't stop thinking about this car!
THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!!
I am considering having Ruf Autocentre here in town do a prepurchase inspection. Most likely money well spent.

PPI is definitely worth the $170 or so that you might spend. Have them check the Rear Main Seal, as that is a problem that can sometimes pop up on these models.
Price is reasonable, so if the PPI is good, go for it. You won't regret it! Maybe try bidding the guy back $2K or so. Or get the dealer to pay for all the fixes that the PPI might reveal. Like the airbag light.
Good luck.

window sounds like a limit switch/motor reg. (they tend to go bad), abs can be resetted by the dealer (also known prob) or a bad unit etc... either way 28K is a great price, and since your a repeat customer and happy with them. yeah get a PPI!!!
