Opinions on a $$$ for a 2003 996

the particulars:

car is yellow with black leather
sport exhaust
some kind of chip (will find out what it is b4 buying it, but the car is unusually fast)
18 thin spoke 5 spoke porsche rims (love these rims!)
lowered sport suspension
33k miles, original warranty until June 2007
6 speed
yellow rear console (yuck)
no extra spoilers
new bridgestones all around
the car just looks bad-***, full champion porsche service history, one owner car.

i'll ppi it tomorrow. guy wants $43,000 for it. what's it worth in the market? how much would extending the original warranty cost me?

thanks for your insights!

Bruce

That's not a bad price to start with... Try swinging it for around $42K and I think you have yourself a pretty good deal on a car like that...

In terms of extended warranties, I am looking at buying a warranty from carchex.com (http://carchex.com/warranties/index.asp) which was referred to me by Carfax... They want around $2400 for 4 years not sure if your car will be less than that...

Good luck..

that is a great deal.
even at the Manheim auctions they are going for about that much.

Sounds like a great deal post some pictures maybe people around here know the car and can lend some insight to the value, but based on what you have presented I would go for it but of course you want to negotiate :>)

negotiation will be impossible...the price is pretty fair IMO. if the car weren't egg-yolk yellow, it'd would fetch a bit more money.

at first i was blown away by the price...at champion, no 2003 goes below $50,000 with CPO. but upon looking in autotrader, it seems like depreciation is being fierce with these 996es. there are 2003's in there for high $30,000's.

guy has a 2002 silver/black with 50k miles for $41,000! since this makes no sense to me, i asked why an 03 with far less mileage can go for nearly the same as an 02...his response was:
1. he can't keep silver cars in stock. silver/black is the most sought after combo (it's what i'd prefer too)
2. he paid too much for the 02, and too little for the 03.

That doesnt sound bad at all........and if you can get the extended warranty.....especially if the car had that "wow factor" for you. What-the-heck. (See, and just like the 04'C4S I picked up in January........ when I see a car that has "wow" and I just love it for what I see........ rational price thinking is out-the-window)

I also go on the other side with color........the colors that may not be as popular, may also work for you in the future. (Oh. Did I mention that my Pantera is Yellow...........so is the 05'GTO my son has...........so you had me sold on YELLOW)

Good luck with it.......hope the PPI checks out.

Great deal. Make sure you are OK with yellow though. IMO, yellow needs to have some wings and aero pkg to keep up with the loud statement.

Check the warranty history w a VIN at any dealer. Repeat RMS can be a problem. Otherwise, look for any body repair during PPI.

Only downside w 03+ is that stereo is digital bus based (MOST). So, it's very costly if you want to upgrade it or get an aftermarket in dash NAV. Otherwise, it's a fair deal. Go for it!!
