Electrical woes where to start.

I have the computers out of the car dme/alarm/airbag but the dash odometer/rpm/time digital display lights stay on after I pull out the key all the idiot lights are off..I would not think that the computers would cause this, also can the car be turned over without the computers? Anyone have an idea where to start trouble shooting. I have the tech manual. As an added there is no power to the windows but if I jump power to the switches the window work. Logical guessing is allowed here.

the dash lights stay on on my car until either the alarm is activated or a certain amount of time....maybe since your alarm is not in the car, its stopping this?

Good point, I left them on for awhile but they did not shut off. Since this is a project car pretty much was stripped out before I received so I am trying to see what I can get to work prior to installing the computers and avoid burning them up. My windows are not getting power yet either and am wondering if this is tied in also.

Your windows are tied with the limits switches, when the batteries are disconnected, you need to fully open and close the windows (sunroof too) so that you can tell the dme where the limits are. Once this is done the computer know when to trurn the window motor on/off. GL

PS: Yeah the instr cluster lights stays on (delayed off) when keys are pulled

I find it odd that the windows operate when I pull the door handle they "drop down to open and close when I shut the door" and this is without the computers out but will not operate with the switches which are not getting power. Knowing what will work without computers is very helpful for my pretest operation and it sounds from what you are saying the the windows/sun roof and dash lights will not work without the computers. Is there anything else that can be tested with the computers out? I would think that the ignition should work to turn the car over? If not maybe it is time to put the computers in and there from a boxster but the proper pn#'s so I hope there are close enough to test until I can have them reprogrammed for my car. Sorry for so much detail but better more then less.

What works

1. lights ok
2. horn ok
3. hazard sort working of I am missing tail lights bulbs so trun signal will not blink
4. gauges registering ok
4. Power to lighter 12V
5. windsheild wipers ok
6. Climate control lights ok
7. Liscense plate light
8. Emergency idiot brake light

What does not

1. windows
2. sun roof
3. turn signals-no tail light bulbs
4. Does not have air bags
5. Spoiler - but I can hear the relay click when I operated the switch on fuse box
6. Stupid, but I do not know how to open the gas door is this electric?

Doors must be unlocked, and you just push on one side and it opens....if the door is locked, it wont open....
