Help! with TrafficPro Install
Help! with TrafficPro Install
Recently acquired one of the TrafficPo's. Started trying to do the install and ran into a road block. The antenna installation is the culprit. I have popped off the security cover in the center of the defrosters, but cannot seem to find the avenue for routing the connector and lead. This area seems to be tight as a drum, with no room to get anything down into the dash.
Does anyone have any helpful hints? I have read posts that others did not have to take off the defroster covers and A trim as per the Porsche TSB. Frankly, I am at a loss as to how to route this without taking that stuff off.
If this is required, what is the easiest way to get the defroster covers off, as they seem to be really in there tight. I am afraid I will snap something.
HELP!!!!

I went through the same thing you are, I had recently read somewhere that if you put the wire in something stiff, like a soda straw, it is much eaiser to push it through. hope this is helpfull. good luck
I just did an install myself, and must say that the antenna was the hardest part.
Here is what I found.
To get the plate off that the antenna goes on, you really have to pop up the defroster panel on both sides of the center plate. The defroster panels are just held in by plastic clips, and they pop up very easy. You don't have to remove the panels completely, just pop them up toward the center.
Now for the antenna cable. I assume that you have your radio and the air conditioner controls removed, and you have the center plate that the antenna will go on removed as well.
If you look in the hole that the radio and air conditioner controls go in you will see the defroster ducts back there.
If you now look down through your windshield at the place were the antenna goes, you can see the top of the same ducts.
What I did was to feed the antenna cable from the top hole down in-front of the defroster duct, pushing with my fingers. The ducts are somewhat soft, and it does not take much to get the cable to where you can see a part of it down through the hole where the air conditioner controls are. From there, you can snag the wire with a piece of hanger wire or your fingers, and pull in on through.
Once I figured out what I was looking at through the top hole and its relationship to the front hole where the radio goes, it was a snap.
Just make sure when you put the radio back in that the cabling does not get snagged in any of the brackets. It is very easy to break a wire.
good luck with it.

that's what I did as well. However if you had the right tools you remove the alarm blinker with two t-15 torx and route it nice and easily through there. I couldn't fit the damn socket so I did the same thing and my arm has many cuts from the underside of the defroster strips!
