smoke coming out of left exhaust

Hi.. my 996 C4S brings out white smoke from the left exhaust only for like 20 seconds as soon as i turn it on. I'm sure this is not normal? Please help.

I dont want to jump the gun... but considering the history of the 996, there are pretty negative possibilities. Check out this thread:

If you have been pushing the car hard the last time before shutting down, then it is normal. It might smoke again briefly, a few more times on start up, then it should go away.

These are possible causes, and are considered normal to our cars:

Is your oil at the max level?
Did you accelerate hard and take a hard corner the last time before the smoke incident?

Of course, it is also possible that there are other causes for it.
You should check your oil and coolant condition, just to be sure.

It just comes out from the left exhaust though and doesn't last more than a few seconds.. Could something be leaking on it? Anyway, i'm installing Fabspeed muflers next week, i'll have the dealer check it out. I changed the coolant resovoir on the last service since it was cracked, so it cant be that.

So, is your oil level at max? Did you push your car hard before it happened?

Sometimes it's possible there's only smoke out of one end.
It's a blueish/white smoke, right?

Did you notice anything abnormal with the engine running?
No CEL?
Did you check your coolant for traces of oil?
Did you check your oil for creamy sludge in it? (look on inside of filler cap)

It's probably nothing, but just don't take it for granted.
Keep an eye, and if things don't seem normal, have it checked out.

This happened to me but oil just got into the intake. Similar to what Cosmos wrote. I was pushing the car hard on corners, and my oil level was a bit high, so some oil seeped into the intake and white smoke was coming out of my exhaust the few times after i drove it. Just pop you hood and check your intake boot for any oil. Good luck.
