Anybody do the plennum install yet?
Drinking the plenum Kool-Aid
Hey y'all,
I received and installed the plenum last night. It wasn't too bad. I got the instructions from RSS which helped a lot but didn't have any pictures. As far as the install goes, you really don't need many tools. I just used a Phillips screwdriver for the airbox and a 1/4" socket set for the hose clamps and throttle body. There are a couple of things that I think may make things a bit easier.
1. I removed the entire top of the airbox and all the air cleaner hoses as a unit. Doing this requires loosening 7 screws on the airbox, removing the MAF wire, and removing the intake hose where it connects to the throttle body. This gives you a lot of room to work, especially if you have large hands...
2. The hardest part of the installation was fitting the IPD plenum between the two intake manifolds and their respective hoses. I slid the driver side hose all the way on the driver side manifold (with both clamps) so that it was flush with the manifold and slid the passenger side hose as far onto the manifold as I could. I then took the plenum side hose clamp of the passenger intake manifold hose entirely off. The passenger side hose has an internal ridge preventing it from sliding as far onto the intake manifold. Removing the clamp allowed the plenum to compress this overlapping portion of the hose material such that the plenum can be wedged into position. Then this clamp can simply be replaced after aligning the hose.
3. My car had a small vacuum fitting that was connected to the driver side plenum hose which presumably samples the pressure entering the driver side intake. I used a flashlight shining through this tiny hole to ensure that I had the hose positioned so that it would not be blocked by overlapping the hole with either the plenum or the intake manifold sleeves. Then I tightened the driver side hose clamps first during reassembly. I have no idea of the relative importance of this small vacuum fitting but it was easy enough to ensure it wasn't blocked.
All in all it was pretty straightforward. I used a little blue loctite on the throttle body bolts because I just couldn't help myself. I bet I could do the next one in less than half the time...
As far as the driving impressions, I took it out last night and drove it some but it was late. I want to say that there is more immediacy in the throttle but I don't know whether it truly feels different or if I am just feeling the placebo effect. Still, there's no CEL and the piece feels well made.
Good luck!

Well, that wasn't easy lads...
I'd say it took me around just under 2 hours for the install. I removed both sides of the hoses from passenger and drivers side to make things easier.
Any questions feel free to PM.
Haven't driven the car yet, but started her up and no CEL's. Will post some impressions over the w/end.

just had mine installed, took it to the dealer who does all my installs. i sat there and watched them, not that easy and a tight fit, they used little mirrors like a dentist uses to make sure the fit and install was perfect. Took a little under an hour. Even the mechanic said he felt the throttle response was more direct. I dont feel more juice, but i do feel a crsiper more direct throttle response. After looking at the Porsche box and this new Plennum, just the difference in quality was worth it. But the added zip does feel good. If you dont have the dexterity or patience, take it to a pro for the install.
good luck
good luck
Mine arrived to my San Diego house yesterday. I can't wait to get it and install it. I have to bring it back to Canada im my luggage though so I just hope it doesn't get confiscated as a "pipe bomb" look-a-like.

Honestly I felt a big difference from 3k onwards, the throttle is much smoother and more reponsive. personally for me it was worth the time and effort.
I did mine this weekend I only have ~30 miles on the upgrade, but I can't feel any difference! I would say the biggest upgrade that I could feel a different was the GIAC Flash Sharkworks did for me. At 4k the car really had a noticeable difference where as the Plenum haven't noticed any change. Considering I paid ruffly the same price for the performance upgrade I could have saved me some money, just MHO here no dyno results just feel. I will say it was pretty much a pain in the butt to install so I wont be removing and sending it back for there money back guarantee.

I did my install last nite. Like the previous posts its sort of a PITA install - though not difficult at all...its just time consuming to line everything up correctly and ensure that you don't have any leaks. I'm not sure I notice that the car is faster in accelerating, but its definitely smoother when accelerating, and over 4K the response of the throttle is better. I have an EVO intake, Suncoast headers, and Tubi mufflers in case folks are trying to compare with the current mods they have.
