HELP..."Check Engine light" is on

my 1999 C2 with only 23k miles.....just came on a hr ago and will not go off. Manual says either

a potential Engine control problem and the need for system service...
Now someone please enlighten me to what the heck does this mean???????

I expect something that is going to be expensive to fix....dam I just spent 800.00 a few weeks ago to fix a waterpump/coolant issue.....this purchase is not starting off to well

or a improperly fastened filler cap......not this
or refueling with engine running.........not this either

You need to get the codes read...it can be anything from bad injectors, to 02 sensors to MAF sensors, or a bad gas cap....Pep Boys can read the codes for free.

I had my CEL go off around that same time. Needed a new 02 sensor. IIRC it cost me $500 with labor at my indy mechanic.

Either go to Autozone to get a free read of the code or buy yourself a $200 +/- scan tool which comes in handy on all new cars.

Great point, and yes I did....unfortunately at that time....no leaks and no CELs......at least I got them down to 395 on the MAF...thanks to Suncoast Porsche/ reasonably close price match. At least I can stop bending over as far now....
I just hope that this is it for a while on repairs......wife is about to kill me....
