Dash Stripes

I was told that in order to remove the factory dash stripes I have to basically break them out? Is that right? And then silicone the new ones on? I'd rather use the screws. Anyone?

I think you can pop them out however you have to disassemble the entire dash.

With a 2002, you don't have to. But you need to be flexable to contort your body. if you remove the glove compartment and the airvents on the side there really is only 1 tough piece.

What if you have a 1999? Does anyone know how it's done?

I had a 99 996. It was a pain. The 3 pieces are screwed in from behind. If you have small hands, you can get 2 of the pieces, but the one between the steering wheel and the radio is the hardest. I had to use a dremel/drill to CAREFULLY get that one out. Patience is key.

When putting them back in, you can use some silicone (be gentle) or other adhesive.

Agreed, they are a beotch to change. They have like 5 million screws holding them back there ... why??

So yes you will end up breaking them in the process.

You can glue the new ones in place if you want. Since they do have the clips, I just snapped the new ones in place. Didn't need to glue it.
