Have any of you gone from the 99 C2 engine to the 02 C2 engine?

Did you notice a big difference in the change?

Thanks for the thoughts.

I have a C4. I believe that the 99 is 300hp and the 02(mine) is 320. I can tell you that when I was looking, I test drove both cars back to back. Noticeable difference in power. If you are thinking of going to an 02, big difference in chassis rigidity and aerodynamics. Also, when did they start producing the variocam engine? Something else to think about....

Actually, I think it is about 125 lbs for the front drive system C4 cab to C2 Cab - But about 290 lbs heavier than a coupe..

The weight is 150lbs difference but as far as aerodynamics go what is the big difference between a 99 and 02? I don't see there being much difference.

Per the 911 sales brochure.... "...careful reshaping of the front and rear fenders, bumpers and front air dam. The result is 25% less lift at the front and 40% less lift at the rear for improved high speed stability over the 2001 model. Reinforcements to the body structure have resulted in a 25% increase in torsional rigidity for crisper response and enhanced agility.....the optional 18" wheels are lighter by over 24 pounds..."

Even though they look the same, the '02 is a total rework over the '01.

Dave:

Great info!

The car I am looking at has the "Sprot Chassis" code 030. Does the brochure say anything as to what this gives the car?

Tim,

This sounds like the sport suspension that goes by the code M030. I think that there are two versions of it - a USA version and a European version. From the factory, the USA suspensions are set higher due to DOT bumper height requirements. This is why a lot of folks change out their suspensions, to lower the car back to European specs, i.e., improved handling.

Someone else may be able to confirm the suspension questions. Or you could send off a note to Gert at Carnewal.com He sells a lot of these products and can probably tell you what the 030 option is.

Dave

The 99 has 296 HP until the E-Gas was put on 2000 and up 996's which then made 300 HP.

Keep in mind that the 02 is a bit heavier. The diff in HP is offset by the weight; most tests show the cars to have the same 0-60 times etc. I had an 00 and traded for an 02. Personally, I think the 02 is a much better car overall. Many of the changes have been covered; the biggest improvement is in torque imo. The 02 motors take less revs and you can just cruise around one gear high if you want...

Good luck.
Roy
