Angry Help - engine speed questions

Hi:

I gave full throttle in 1st gear and took it to what I thought was 6500 rpm before making the shift into 2nd. However, the tach needle went into the red. I know I left off. I know there is a rev limiter, but did I do any possible damage? Also, I noticed in the manual under the tachometer description that you should shift down before leting the rpms drop under 1500. I did not see this before. I know I have let rpms go down to 1000 in 2nd gear going through an ez pass or something, because shifting into first would be to rough. The engine never seemed to lug or stress, and always climbed in engine speed quickly. Same question - Did I hurt anything?

The car is new to me, having about 2800 miles. I followed breakin to the letter, and then changed the oil.

Your porsche will handle a lot more abuse than you gave it,
but that low rpm lugging in 2nd is not good.

Iam sure your car is fine, quit worrying, just drive it.........

Seriously??

A couple hundred rpms for not even a second would have done harm? How can I tell? Will the car be slower? Now I am freaked. Sorry, I am a very nervous person.

I really think you are fine Joe, seriously!! I rarely shift below 5000rpms and tach her up all the time just below redline. They are made be driven like they are stolen...it's a sports car. There is rev limiter to stop you from over reving the engine, which sounds like you didn't hit. You would have felt that pretty clearly.

Have fun, enjoy your car, enjoy some high RMS and throttle steering. My only word of advise is to ensure you warm the car up before taching her up. But, really, you are fine! Don't be nervous or scared. I felt like you did when I got my first Pcar. To get over those "feelings" I went and did a Driver's Ed...that fixed everything. If you can, get to one yourself, it'll be an awakening!

I have hit the rev limiter several times... that's what its there for. As for the low RPM thing, I often start in 2nd when in residential neighborhoods and have never had a problem. Drive and have fun my friend... these cars are built tough and can take it... if not, that's what a warranty is for.

the only thing you did was waste gas. don't be scared to rev to high on you car it can handle alot more. my rev liminter is set at 7300(ecu) upgrade. and reving to low is just going to waste gas, the deeper you step on the gas to get it going the more gas your putting in the engine. although you may think that you are being soft on the engine, it's designed to be reved high. next time drop it to first and let the engine roar. mobile 1 baby.
