First people accepted the Porsche SUV. Eventually the masses will accept a 4-door Porsche too. But the hard core sports guy, or even a semi-serious guy will not accept it. It's up to Porsche to hold up the standard. Let's hope to they continue to go downhill.

If they really produce this, Porsche will officialy no longer be a "sports car company" but rather just another one of the many high price luxury car importers.

not my particular cup of tea, but then again - if I wanted a 4 door sports car I'd go after the new M5 or an E55...unless that puppy will have a turbo vers.

Talking Damm, Eric, you put this everywhere!

This is not the first 4 door exercise for Porsche. Remember the 989 from the early 90's? That car was based on the 928 and was a front engined V8.

If the rumors are correct this car will be based on the Phaeton chassis, which is a top notch platform. Expect a Cayenne twin turbo V8, and perhaps even a twin turbo W12 version with AWD!

As a 996 owner, I think this progression is fine. Porsche will still make kick *** sports cars, but will broaden its product line with a kick *** sedan. Plus it will save me from having to buy that damm SL500 the wifie wants.

the moment the 928 came or for that sake any other non-911 type car, we all moaned and groaned. the Cayenne has been A HUGE HIT for the MANUFACTURER, perhaps not to some of you. in my opinion, Porsche is doing the right thing, if it doesn't work (which in my opinion may not GIVEN THE LACKLUSTER response to the VW Phaeton) they're out $$, but if it works, they're in huge...they need to get back some of the market share that BMW/Mercedes/Volvo enjoy........i think it looks ok for starters

regards

I hate the people who think porsche needs to only make sports cars. If you people have it your way there will be no porsche! Porsche can even start making motorcycles and boats, I won't care, it's not as if their sports cars will suddenly become pieces of junk because they decide to produce an suv and a 4 door sedan. Good for porsche, if it's anything like the cayenne, it is going to be the best in it's class.

They need to hire some Italians to re-design the body.

as long as it drives like 911 I'm all for it ... can't stand the other choices there are out there for sedans (7s, MBZ, Audis, whatever) -- IMHO might as well get a SUV because the sedans drive just as crappy and SUVs have more room.

"Looks like somebody stepped on a Cayenne!", DaveMo.. LOL. Then I took a second look and what did you know! It does look like someone stepped on the Cayenne. But honestly, I'm all for a sedan or better yet the return of the 928. Why does did it have to look like a stretched 996? Does everything have to evolve around the 911?
