I love the smoked lights but, Decided against them for safety reasons. I was rear ended in my '03 C4S by one car that was consequently hit by another. Seemed like relatively minor damage, but turned out to be $40,000 worth of damage and 101 days without that car while it was being repaired. Insurance paid for every penny but, if my tail lights had been tinted, I would assume an attorney could make a case the driver behind me didn't see the brake lights because of the tint. This hit also seriously affected the trade in value even though the repair was perfect. They run check off the VIN's for major repairs now.

I was also rear ended twice by the same TRUCK in my new 997 Turbo last December while STOPPED at a light. The driver said he didn't see me!?! Thankfully, no damage was done, but accidents do happen and I wouldn't take that chance even though I love the look.

Just something you might want to consider from a paranoid friend.

Yeah- I love the look as well but I have to agree that they are sh#t for safety.
I almost ran up too close on a new SUV that had the tail lights smoked. No way you can see a discernable diff between brake lights on / off in full daylight. -So if you get it done, be aware that other drivers might not readily see you hitting the brakes.
I did put on a smoked 3rd-brakelight but the super-bright LED's show bright and are very visible. I suppose if the tail lights were LED as well it would show better through the smoke tint.

I love smoked tails but not when they are too dark. I got pulled over by the CHP last month and my tails aren't even blacked out, but rather lightly tinted.
