New M5...Weak Output Numbers ?!?!

I just got my new "Automobile" magazine today and they are going over upcoming cars and they had the new M5. Here is what they are saying :

500 hp
369 lb.-ft. of torque
8300 rpm redline
6 speed manual or SMG
0-60 in 4.5 seconds (probably factory conservative)

While that is 31 more hp than the E55, it is a whopping 147 lb.ft. torque LESS than the E55. I hope this is a typo. That is only 1 lb./ft more torque than the current M5. If this is the final figure that is disappointing.

i believe the redline on the E55 is 6k vs. 8300 for the M5. you need to see the power curves to see what % of peak torque each car produces where and for how long.

I think BMW is being conservative with all their output and performance numbers. The new M5 is expencted to be faster then the current GT2 from 0-200kph. Only time (at least 8 months) will tell.

Kick-butt torque vs. a high RPM screamer. I'll bet the V-10 at 8300 RPM sounds unreal. Like a 10 cylinder GT3. Maybe they'll make a Z-10.
I'll bet the M5 costs a lot more than the E55 though.

Too bad it's based on the Bangled 5-series...

Wonder if you can put that engine in an E39 M5.

Yeah, I guess this engine will be a screamer, something 911/GT3 owners might get into when the need for 4 doors & real back seats are needed. I hope that 4.5 is conservative as the E55 is already ripping off 4.2's-4.3's in the 0-60, and 12.3's-12.4's in the 1/4 mi. I used to be the M cars putperformed the AMG's in almost every performance category, now it seems the MBZ's are at least taking back the straight line. Seems to be a M3 vs. C55 on steroid comparison. High revving, NA, manual/SMG vs. big displacement, SC'ed (in the E55), auto.
