need wire callout

2003 targa.
I pulled the stock head unit out and replaced it with an AVIC-Z2.
Got all the wires done and hooked up except one. One lousy wire left that I really need help with and can't find any solid information on for my model year and species of car.
I need the ILLUMINATION WIRE or one that is dead on accurate for the source to tap in to.
This unit is way too bright at night without the auto-dimming feature.
I have tried this site as well as the other 2 popular sites and have found information that is for 996s that are pre-2003. I don't trust the information since I am convinced that they changed enough in 2003 to make me doubt it.
Explain to me where to tie in to and what the color code of the wire is and what the standard task of the wire should or would be.

Thanks!

I just bought the same unit and was going to install it next weekend. Let me how it worked out for you.

Nobody has anything on this?
Any installers in this group?
It's a single wire provided by Pioneer that connects somewhere so that when the headlamps are on, the dash dims down and so would the stereo.
This is only one wire that needs a home. Can anyone tell me where to put it?
(be nice!)

if all you need is a signal indicating the lights are on, why not use the +v from one of the switches near the head unit?

Do you have a 12v circuit tester?

Test the wire harness for the wire that reads hot when the lights are on, then connect the wire from the Pioneer to it- easy as pie.
