Looking to pick one up, but been seeing mixed reviews. Obviously there's a lot of people out there willing to overlook some mechanical issues since they're in love with the exterior, but would like objective input.
Thanks,

horrific resale. poor quality control. built off the lr3 platform. i'd think twice about it unless someone else has taken the hit and still under warranty for whatever time you intnd to own it.

I work for a Mercedes-Benz dealership and for a while we kept on getting them as trades and took as atleast 3 months to get rid of each

I've never owned a RR sport, but I've had 04' RR HSE. Before I bought it, I loved the turck. It was my dream car until I actually owned one. The car had A LOT OF PROBLEMS!!!! It actually had problems when I drove off the lot. Don't get me wrong, it's a beautiful truck and it drives like a sports sadan but it's not worth the trouble. To make a long story short, after 3.5 year of that thing. I went through 2 tranny's, 3 computers and a number of electrical problems. Total down time, roughly about 2-2.5 months.

Thats not typical....I have an 03, its got 65k miles on it now...First few years it was back for lots of LITTLE things...the car has never been on a flatbed, or left me stranded...

really? Well you got lucky with your then. I know 3 other people and we all feel the same way now. For the amount of money you spend on a truck like this, it should be able to go through wall

You know I was leary at first with all the little things but it hasnt had an issue in years.....wife drives it every day and doesnt want to get anything else except maybe a brand new Rover....I know a few others with Rovers as well and they are all happy as clams...I had a 95 before this one and I sold it in excellent condition with 160k miles...I have no problems with Rovers...they are VERY well built cars.....but you touched on the problem...you think "for an 80k mile truck it should NEVER break down".... but what you are paying for is not reliability its about as reliable as most new cars. What you are paying for is quality of materials, capabilities, comfort, and workmanship. All those are well above any other SUV on the market. I know I have looked at EVERY other SUV and none of them come close to the Rover in all those areas. My wife said the same thing when she had the same amount as problems with her Lexus. When I reminded her she said, well it was half the price....lol...price makes you have a different perspective on the reliability of the car...Back to the original poster, a Range Rover Sport is NOT a Range Rover. Its made on the LR3 platform....its not designed to be their flagship model at all....so it has limitations...I drove them extensively and while it was a nice car, It was nowhere near as nice as the full sized Rover.

my family's on it's third land rover. this is the last one, haha. we had a '95 discovery that was awesome. sold it and picked up a disco II... we also have a 2002 range rover (last year before ford took over i guess?) anyway. it's not the problems that they have had, it's the service when you DO have a problem. the range rover was left there for a week and a half before they even looked at it, and it wasn't in there for anything related to driving. the glovebox broke. a few days later they called to say it was ready, we went down there and they picked at the glove box for alittle bit with a screwdriver but still didn't fix it. they DID leave a nice tear in the leather on it though.. yay for that. so another few days to order a new glovebox, then a few more days.. then it's finally fixed. the whole ordeal was like 2 and a half weeks to get a stupid glovebox fixed.

IIRC all the current models are from the same platform.

They're very capable cars, it's just the service is terrible at my dealership, and we're not going back. plus, we don't have a need for 2 SUV's. The range is getting traded in for an A8!

I agree with you on the part about the qulity or materials, capabilities, confort and workmanship. But as far as I'm concerned, "Mine was not reliable". It's a beautiful SUV, it drives like a sadan and hand down the best SUV on the market. I'm just saying, "mines wasn't reliable", that's all.

To the original poster, newport is right. RR sport is not a real rover. That's why it's that much cheaper.

2002 Rover is ENTIRELY different than the current platform....I wouldnt take an out of warranty Rover to the dealer...Mine goes to a cool indie service place that only does Rovers....
