Tint or no Tint - Opinions
I say go 20% or even less on you black car...Im looking to retint mine darker at some point...
If and when you wanna be seen, roll with the windows down.
Why risk riding around with a hot chick, just to have another hot chick see you with one.
Or more importantly...If you pull up to a stop light with a hottie in your car and your girlfriend stops beside you, your gonna wish you had went darker!

But I do agree with the girlfriend thing. "It was my sister in the passenger seat...I swear to God!!!"....
As for the price, I don't think there are as many tinting shops up here in SE Michigan as there are in FL or CA. Therefore, the prices are a touch higher. I got my quote from the tinting shop that our local Aston Martin & Jaguar dealerships use. They have been in business for 20+ years, so I would rather pay up for the piece of mind.
Thanks for everyones thoughts in this thread.
Basically the install price of 'any' tint is the about the same, but it is the 'tint' itself that will increase the total cost. Better quality tint will cost more.
For example, a 5-window job:
Then it is up to the expertise of the installer to do a great job, because it sucks to buy expensive tint for it to look cheap. Good tinters will get the tint into the dots using infared lamps and makes sure that tint does not peel when you open and close the doors and windows.
I live by the saying 'You get what you pay for'. You will not a get a $400 tint job for $200, if you do I bet it isn't the same tint.
Besides, you own a Porsche, don't cheap out on a tint job.
Just my 2 cents worth and my source is a very good friend of mine that owns a tint business (Rocky Mountain Window Tint in Livermore) and he's been doing tint for 20 years.
For example, a 5-window job:
- Metalized tint (old school - not good for electronics like radar detectors that fires backwards) = $129
- Ceramic (new school - the best on the market today as it doesn't interfere with electronics and has excellent UV protection and the best clarity) = $399
- Carbon (new technology but limited clarity and again very new to the market of tints) = $359

I say tint it. I did 25% all the way around on mine. Looks great, keeps the car cooler, reduces U.V., can strengthen the glass, and reduce the risk of flying glass when there's a drive by.
