Scheduled Maintenance...

Sorry guys, newbie question...I looked in the manual, but it doesn't mention oil change intervals....it only shows 15K+ scheduled maintenance...when should oil changes take place? Usual is 3-4K right?

TIA.

Oil changes are recommened every 15k miles or one year and at some point it changed to 15k or two years...or visa versa.

I do mine at an interval of 7500 miles (I run her good and live in a hot climate). I let the dealer handle the "scheduled" and I do the interim. Saves money and it's SO easy.

Thanks Robyn, much appreciated...and great car BTW! - hopefully I'll be able to catch up in mods someday!

Can anyone in SoCal recommend a independent Porsche Service place?

The 3-4k is such a rip off that the oil changing industry has somehow managed to convince the general public is gospel. Most cars are 7500 miles or more, and if you put synthetic in it's even more. 996 says 15k.

i agree with l.a. cab, take it to pacific porsche in torrance, ask for dominic, he'll treat you good, when u take it in for service ask for a porsche loaner car, if they dont have one they'll give u an enterprise rental car..

you only neeed to change the oil every 15,000 miles or once a year, and if your low on oil just buy some mobil 1 ow40

my brother just got his first 15,000 k service on his car and he paid 400 bux for the service, they found an rms leak but it was within specs, so they didnt have to replace the motor..

If your car is still under factory warranty , i would advice you to have it checked at the porsche dealer, tell them taht you saw oil leaks on your driveway or something and they will check your car out thoroughly and they will fix it if the car is still under factory warranty..

hope this info helps

Thanks Joe - very helpful, I had seen some ref. to this on the forum previously...I have 4500 miles on an 02', I'll have them check it on my first 15K service.
