High Pitched Whistling on tick-over

Have developed a fault this morning, on tick-over and also revving upto 3500revs I have a very high pitched whistling noise... Coming from the top right hand side of the engine bay... Sprayed some silicone on the belts and it didn't go away.

I've read somewhere there could be a problem with the Power Steering Res? anyone anymore info on this or any other ideas?

Cheers

Does it go away when you engage the clutch? If not...it's not the Power steering res.

Does it on tick over when the vehicle is stationary, pressing the clutch has no effect.

Will get it on the ramp monday and have a good pock about.

I've had this noise for years, I think I was the first to post this on Rennlist and no one posted so I thought it was an anomoly to my car. Taken to the dealer and they couldn't reproduce the noise so did nothing about it.

Anyone really analyze what causes this? Do they actually replace the resovior with a new and improved one? Or just remove the old unit and reinstall? what actually causes this noise?

Sorry. don't understand what you are saying here. The res. issue is more of a whine that you here at low RPMs and goes away when the clutch is engaged. It is a potential safety hazard. Your problem does not sound like that.

Does this sound occur when the car is hot or cold or both?

It is a little low in the dip-stick... Ordered a tub so will top it up next week and see if that fixes the problem.

I have the same problem as you. Same people mentioned it could be a idler or altenator pulley.

When the I start my car it makes a loud squeak, doesn't matter if the clutch is engaged or not, or hot or cold. I had my steering res replaced recently for a different noise.

Check power steering fluid first.

If the sound is a high pitched whine and goes away when depressing the clutch, you need a clutch accumulator.

It's a very common problem and cheap and easy to fix. i had the same EXACT symptoms.

I just checked my power steering fluid after driving the car for 20 mins. Its on the "hot level" should it be at the "max" level??
