Can't Stop Rubbing The Front Bumper!!

Man, I can't seem to go in or out of a driveway or entrance to a parking lot without rubbing the underside of my front bumper. That black plastic piece is taking a bit of abuse. Any tips on how to consistently avoid this? My dealer said to take it at an angle but that isn't always working.

I feel stupid.

The driveways in SoCal are notorious for being REALLY steep so other than doing as your dealership suggested, there's not a whole lot you can do. Definitely don't want to consider getting your car dropped if you're already experiencing scraping issues.

As a note, those front lips are relatively cheap so it might be a good idea to get a spare. I got a spare for $130 from Sunset Porsche.

You might want to check the spelling in your signature, You've got "guards red" misspelled.

Thanks Atomic80. I was thinking about doing that. It does look like an inexpensive part. I guess a carbon fiber lip is out eh?

D'oh! Thanks for the spelling change.

Yeah, you definitely DON'T want to get a carbon fiber lip. You'll be paying through the nose because of that!

So is a painted front lip. Not worth the trouble of repainting the lip monthly, even if you are a painter. I take a razorblade to the bottom of the lip and then 80 grit sanpaper about once a month. Jason you lucky guy!.... Don't have to deal with our steep driveways or lousy gas!! Not fair! BTW, I am trying to unload my D200 on EBay....end of month D300 is out!

I have the same problem but mine has a painted lip. Dealer wants $900 for a paint ready replacement lip + paint!

2thfixr tell your dealers to take a HIKE!. I got a replacement front lip and painted for less than $260.00 IIRC

Tell them you will trade them an unnecessary tooth extraction for the painted spoiler

I have been "lucky" so far. I still have my original painted front lip and it has not suffered any damage. Mine is not a DD and I am very selective where I drive it. I don't take it on shopping trips! My biggest challenge so far has been negotiating the entrance to the gas station. I take it very slow at an angle and I think it helps to put PASM in sport mode to stiffen up the front. I recently dropped my car an inch on the front and I’m still lucky. If I had to drive it daily the painted front lip would have been history months ago.

The lip is considered a wear and tear item by Porsche, I would definitely not do a painted lip on a DD. All you can do is take driveways slow. Mine scrapes everywhere, no way I could lower the car.

Try leaving your driveway at an angle that would have your front tire be the first to make contact. An example if you are coming towards the driveway: Approach it from the farthest point to the left, then turn your wheels right; bringing your car somewhat parallel to the driveway, then turn your wheels left. This should put your drivers side tire on the driveway first. Do this and you wont scratch it ever again. Perfect it and you can park your car on a sidewalk with a 6" to 1' curb, without scratching any part of your car.
I have done this before, only because there was no more parking on the street, so i put an M3 on a sidewalk, also did it with a 3 series in the tunnel in Monaco, and with a turbo the other day while avoiding traffic.

You can add protective film to the lip spoiler underneath and the whole front fascia, so that when you scrape the bumper it wont scratch and still look clean.

The other day some one backed into my XKR and there were some paint left over from the other car on my bumper, I came back home examined it and cleaned it with soap and within 10 minutes it looks un-touched and as if the incident never happened in the first place. Just my 0.02

Ordered a new lip from Sunset Porsche for $139 + shipping. I also found out that my local parts guy is an idiot. The $900 lip that he claimed was the paint ready primered lip was actually the aero kit lip, there is only one standard lip.
