2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo
GT-R and R8 suck IMHO
The Nissan GT-R looks ugly as sh*t, weighs 3800lbs, is AWD and has less power than a 997TT. It's crap.
No matter what Jeremy Clarkson (Top Gear) has said about the wonders of the R8, it is a crappy track car, having just spent 3 days at VIR driving one. It's design is also ugly - like they couldn't quite go all the way to a Lamborghini or Ferrari design- instead it is 'faux' italian supercar- although you can see the engine through the back (big deal) they had to destroy it with german "sequin" LEDs around the lights and in other place - not to mention that big piece of aluminum that hangs off the side of the car and would only look acceptable if it was painted the same color as the car.
Maybe the R10 will be better.

Agreed. I am curious as well.
First and foremost, the GTR MUST be putting out more than 473 hp w/ a 3800# curb weight to post those #s. Not possible to post an 11.6 at 121 with 473 hp and a 3800# berth. I would suspect the GTR to be posting 500 RWHP (or AWHP I should say) at a minimum which would translate to ballpark 565 or so crank hp with a potbellied 3800# to achieve those #s even with AWD.
I guess we will see when they hit the streets and people actually take them to their local strip. Just based on the #'s only, an AWD car with 473 crank hp and 3800# should be posting mid 12's at best. Weight is a killer.

SAE horsepower ratings are crank HP ratings. To post 475-485 HUB horsepower, the GT-R must be producing substantially more horsepower at the crank.
God Bless,
That is correct, the GTR would be around 550bhp based off of those numbers which is why the weight doesn't doesn't become a factor when comparing it to the lighter 997 Turbo.
Warranty?...Mods???? Those two words don't mix and there are precious few P-car dealers, or any others for that matter, that look favorably on "mods" when a warranty claim is needed.
Be good,

Of which I conclude, that Nissan is fudging numbers. By reporting SAE power to be 480, they are simply deceiving themselves and the public.
I'm not seeing the problem here. Nobody complained when BMW underrated the 335i hp numbers. Now if my car started overheating on the way to the track - that's another thing.
Skyline, Evo, STI, all were famous for underestimated HP numbers to keep the govt officials happy in Japan. Its probably just an inside joke at Nissan fudging these numbers also.
Whats a bit of a grey area is of course the car on paper looks flat out awesome with those lap times weighing more than the 997TT and putting out less HP and Torque. But factor in the dyno tests and with much more HP and TQ than advertised the times are what we can should expect.
Regardless, I think its bad a$$.

I'm just pointing out that Nissan is making such an attempt to compare the GT-R to the 911 Turbo that they are willing to fudge numbers to make a comparison. They're the ones making the claim of ~480 hp...when in fact, it is ~480 hp at the hub...an unconventional means of reporting...and certainly not an SAE standard.
Locked????...sounds like most ECUs of today and someone will crack it...they always do. Also, Nissan isn't stupid...they aren't going to block the "yet to explode" world of GTR aftermarket...

before actual release i heard that Nissan was encouraging aftermarket support and built a bottom end capable of supporting much more hp than stock.
I'd rather pick up a used 997 turbo over a new GTR
