2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo
What youre doing is the equivalent of pulling up beside a f/p/l car at a stop light in a mustang and reving your engine trying to provoke something. Fun when I was younger and the guy driving the the cheaper car. But now a just laugh and let the guy go. Maybe I'm just getting older.
You can compare all the stats you want between the 997TT and the GTR, but you have to understand something. The 911 has retained it's basic design, layout, and engine configuration for decades. It is truly an evolution. Having said that. When you look at the performance stats of the turbo with it's original concept in tact from decades ago, you have to admit that's pretty impressive. How many high performance cars out there can say that with the exception of a few. Any car company can start from scratch when buidling a performance car. The 911 has had the flat six forever even though they went water cooled from air cooled in the 996. The GTR is now using a V6 rather than an inline 6? Not much evolution there in my book. It's still an awesome car, but I don't think we're comparing apples to apples here.
The GTR is a poor man's supercar.
The inline 6 was replaced w/ a V6 due to better weight distribution, newer technology involving "V" engines, and because of it's cost. The cost of a single vehicle in Nissan's fleet to have a unique engine is just too expensive.
I like both cars for what they are and what each delivers on it's own merit.

And you are missing the point in that most would not cross shop a Nissan with a Porsche because of the brand and you just discount people as snobs as a result. Great car, but get the chip off you shoulder. Its this immature behavior that unfortunately undermines the very brand. I will admit some porsche owner behavior is not above the mud either but come on.

With that being said I prefer the 997TT over the GTR not because it is a "Porsche" but because I find the design to be timeless, sexy, and the sound and power to be incredible. I also prefer the seating position and nimble nature.
Again the GTR is a great car and being a "Nissan" shouldn't make it any less impressive. It is not at all like comparing a Mustang with a blower to a 997. The GTR has 15" brakes, speed regulated diffs, oil pressure gage, A/F gage, EGT gage, Oil temp gage, 475-485whp, and so on. The mustang goes straight and can't stop or turn. Not having brand loyality doesn't mean that I need to grow up it is just the way I live my life. The same goes for clothes, women, jobs, food, etc.
Regardless what anyone thinks, I think it would be cool to have one in the garage along with my P-cars and Lambo. Different flavor for each day.
Yes, it's a Nissan, NOTHING wrong with that! I had an Acura NSX a while back, and you know what, it was one nice car to have. Wish I kept it. Further, the GT-R will probably be more reliable and cheaper to operate. And, watch out....there are a lot more import tuners out there than P-car tuners I think...so, in no time, we will see super insane hight power GT-R running around.
I am glad Nission is bringing this to the US.

The car isn't available yet to USA customers, how can you expect the thread to die? Everybody is comparing it to the Porsche without actually having a production car making the rounds in the streets of good old USA! I can't imagine, when this happens, this thread will never die.

The car isn't even out yet. Until then, everything is magazine racing. Furthermore, most contributors to this thread don't even own a 997 turbo.
So I say again...this thread has got to die...
