If no one cared, half the post on this board wouldn't be here. All these threads about exhaust, engine mods etc..

I thought everybody was doing it to make their cars faster. You saying it's just for show?

Not at all. But I don't understand the importance of being able win a race against a totally different car on a public road. Take it to the track where you'll be properly classified. If you can't win there it's more likely the driver who is lacking rather than the car.

I'm with you there, besides you can take a 89 ford mustang slap a supercharger and some other little parts on it, and for 10k total(including car) you could probably beat both the Z06 and 99TT straight line.

Let's be honest having a Porsche is more about owning a car with long history and the complete driving experience. It's not always about going fast in a straight line.

Heritage and prestige are certainly desirable attributes, but at the end of the day most cars spend 95%+ of their time on regular roads and not the track. Whereas one would be crazy to drive 10/10ths on winding public roads, using 100% of straight line acceleration is easily accomplished. Power and acceleration are important, otherwise why not just get a regular 911 and mod the suspension. I only hope Porsche has power increases planned soon given all these high hp cars coming out (e.g. ZR1).

Well, the other driver was by himself he maybe weight 160, I was with my 300 pound buddy, and I weight 190, so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

Whatever the case - it was fast, and I had no idea they were so fast! Time for Nitrous, and Methanol injection, she's going into the shop first thing Monday. Bigger turbos in a month or so, waiting on parts.

The extra weight of your passenger was definitely a factor. Likely THE determining factor in a face where he only put 1/2 a car on you.

I agree with a previous remark that 40 to 100 mph is just too short to tell anything for certain about the 2 cars. 40 to 140 would tell you a lot more about the cars and how they stack up.

0 - 140 MPH would be THE test.

Why don't any of the ZO6 boys like to start from scratch? Traction problems???

I can tell you from 3 starts from zero that the ZO6 CANNOT begin to touch the turbo.

The Z06 is handicapped from a start (I've seen some hockey pucks on the ice with better traction.)

Ok we've seen the Z06 clips winning and losing . Like this win clip for the 997tt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8ovdN-v0C0

and this lose by the 997tt
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2WZ9lrfDqQ

Win or lose every time I have ever test driven a vette I opted not to buy it . It was not an issue of speed because the Chevy is fast . I simply did not like the car . The scoops and ***** and overall experiece even right down to the haggle tactics of the chevy salesperson just wasn't for me . For those who own the car and love it - I wish you the best .

As for 360's race . He's almost 200 lbs and has a 300 pound dude in the passenger seat . Eeesh. His passenger weighs more than double my weight . That's a loss right there.

This debate will rage till the end of time,or at least till the end of oil!
However i dont care if the corvette is faster with x,y,z mods i would rather be sitting in the Porsche any day of the week, but thats not to say the corvette isnt a nice car, because it still is.

0 - 140 would be good too, but then you're just talking about drag racing. The drag race is going to give the advantage to the Z06. The roll-on races generally have the effect of allowing the better car to display that it either puts its power to use better or flat out has more of it. Heck, I'm more than happy to run from a dig, but that's not what most guys want to do.

I was just saying that a run from 40 - 100 mph is too short to tell on cars as fast as the 997TT and the Z06. 40 - 140 would give enough time, enough gears, etc. to constitute a decent run. Like I said before though, the 300 pound handicap ended the race before they even ran it.
