if you want a car thats fast and good bang for the buck, get:

1. 1-2 years old Corvetter Z06
2. Mitsubishi Lancer EVO and throw 10-15k in mods.

Either car will be a formidable opponent to the GTR for far less money

Did it make you a better driver? It all comes down to the following:
1. Heritage
2. Styling
3. Driver skill
4. Performance

Performance is last because a good driver can out drive a faster car!
Styling is more important because it is subjective and that is what matters to YOU when you buy a car.
Heritage is the number one important factor when buying a car in this class, and it speaks volumes about what you are buying into. Its a culture, and its about the club you are about to join.
Lastly, when I buy a car I tend to focus on how many I will see on the road in a given day. I hate seeing dozens and dozens of the same car. I believe we will see hundreds of GTR's to the 1 TT just because of the price point.

So what club do you want to be part of?

Its not about better, worse, 3.4 or 3.3 0-60 times. It goes much deeper then that and the GTR has no culture!

No disrespect to you, but some of your information is wrong.

GT-R in Japan has the equivalent icon status as 997TT in Germany. If you care to learn anything about the GT-R, you will find out there it has a culture and heritage that is comparable to Porsche 911 and Chevy Corvette. They are all great sport cars.

No need for us Porsche owners to get upset and defensive if a new sport car is beating us on the numbers. We know we can all easily afford adding a GT-R to our garage, so why get upset?

I'm not going to argue and defend for the stying of the GT-R. It looks different and I don't like it or hate it.

As for production number, current 911 Turbo are overly produced. There is no way that there will be more GT-R on the street than 997TT in the next few years.

There is no way to proove one way or the other, but I'm pretty sure they werent slicks. That came from a interview with one of the Engineers or somebody saying that if they wanted to go faster, they'd need cut slicks and he misinterpreted it.

If you listen to the video closely you can hear the sound of the tires which sounds pretty much like all the other times you hear it driving. The car is legitimately fast, but still not as fast as it's being made out to be.

My car weighs 3600 lbs with my 220 lbs frame in it. I eat pads and rotors like nobodies business. I couldnt imagine doing that with almost 4100 lbs. I have tracked an M5 with that much weight, but the brake heat and tires are gone in a second.

Agree, there are a lot of guys on this board who've wanted a turbo all their lives, usually after seeing there first 930 25 yrs ago(guilty). Don't think you can say the same about the gtr. Not even in the same solar system.

And the GT-R's sidewalls are even stiffer than the normal runflat. Chances are it would eat sport cups or overheat hoosiers in a heartbeat.

It WILL get knocked back down to earth, and soon.

Motor trend makes the point that the GT-R uses very low gear ratios (and fast shifting) to achieve the acceleration numbers in such a heavy car, but also makes the point that the Gt-R begins to appear "mortal" as the speed increases. The chart comparing its acceleration to other supercars is interesting. Still, on the street to 100 mph or so the GTR will be a potent challenge for any other stock car

I've said all along the GT-R isnt any faster in acceleration and most likely slower, and it's been said, and shown, especially in same day testing. But through media hype and fanboy takeovers people have began to put their tails between their legs.

On top of that on the circuits Nissan could only manage a tie with their drivers on circuits in the states. TT winning one and the GT-R the other, both by very small margins. Add some Best Motoring here and drifting in the TT there, and now people think the car is otherwordly, when it's not. Pretty simple.

The car is about equal to a 997 TT, which is a great accomplishment for Nissan, but the buck stops there. All the TT needs for Porsche to do is up the boost a bit, and it's curtains.

All 3 are great cars, regardless of the prices. But what I care is 10 years ago only VERY few stock Japanese cars can see the tail light of a 993 Turbo or GT2, but 10 yrs later they have a car beats 997 Turbo for half price. Should Porsche do something to bring the history back?

the agree with a lot of your points...with the exception of your last one. You are sadly mistaken if you think the gtr has no culture. I won't even get into it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Skyline_GT-R

the true motor enthusiasts won't care what brand is behind a car. They will appreciate any car that has passion and performance. Some of you remind me of typical oc housewives that just shop by brand. I love porsches, i love nissans, and i even love some chevy's I'm also not on the GTR bandwagon as i think its fast track times are largely due to their r compound like tires. Let's just get along and stop being so close minded.

I have to agree, the GT-R has a cult like following, a lot of it worldwide due to the in house and minmal selective external exploits of the GT-R, so outside of Japan it's been a dying to get what you cant have deal. But contrary to many fanboys beleifs, that demographic is far from a challenge to Porsches Turbo sales and they will not suffer because of it.

Porsche has a cult like following too, but it's the ones who want the 998 to look more like the 930 and continue going backwards instead of forwards. Hence the reason the 911 has survived this long. The GT-R has no chance of changing that.

I guess you could duct tape a Skyline badge on it if it makes you feel better.
There will be more 300zx's then you can shake a stick at with GTR body kits. I give it a matter of months. Its not about one heritage being better then the other, wait a minute of course it is
