Wow, unbelievable! I think the oil tank holds 4 to 5 quarts and the turbos are another quart. At the dealership, they always just pour in 9 quarts. Always pissed me off that the oil would always be beyond the full mark after they changed the oil.

Ditto on doing your own oil change.

ahhhhhh am I in the twilight zone? I just read 2 threads by people from Jersey complaining about dealers... both have post counts in the low 40s... one car is leaking oil and the other is overfilled with oil... what the **** is going on in Jersey?????

IOWs nothing to be alarmed about.
how about white smoke upon start up? (not every time)

Yeah, well an update. Car running like crap, missing under boost, she's back at dealer.

Unreal, I know that damn intake is full of oil and any attendant sensors are fouled. I am fuming damn engine has to come out of a car with 1900 miles.

By the way, your overfill woes are really because they had to have an engine with no dipstick. Porsche should have let BMW overcomplicate their systems and left the dipstick in the car.

The dealer did an oil and filter change and charged me for 9 quarts, but didn't put in all of the last quart . After the engine reached operating temperature the gauge showed one notch down. The dealer said they don't add the whole last quart, because that would overfill it. I added some at home to bring the gauge up to full.

If you are only putting in 5 or 6 quarts and it reads full on the gauge afterwards, you must have a different engine than mine. Page 286 of the owners manual states 8.25 quarts/7.8 liters w/o filter, 8.5 quarts/8.0 liters with filter.

You could have a blockage somewhere, and perhaps an enema or a suppository is in order.

Nah, all cars do that to one extent or another, especially when it's cold. It's called steam.

That's not a mental picture I want to be thinking about anytime soon.

I said that the oil tank holds 5 or 6 quarts- this is not counting the crankcase.

I don’t know where you took your car. But who ever did that is less inelegant then even the average jiffy lube employee. That much extra oil will mess up a lot of things. Mainly the catalytic converters, O2 sensors, and potential other sensors and lines will get plugged with oil. Also with that much oil you run the risk of submerging the rear main seal and getting a lot of oil on your clutch. Honestly I would say that is a 20K mistake and you should smack the stooge that did the change across the head. The way a cars oil level is set is based upon where the rms level lies. Even on dry sump that much oil is really bad.
