B&M Short Shifter
B&M Short Shifter
Has anyone switched from their stock turbo shifter to the B&M shifter? Does it make that much of a difference? I've been told that it's TOO close and you tend to miss shifts. Even the mfg won't confirm the 30% claimed shortened stroke.
I'm also told it's a simple install. Anyone done it themselves?

Short Shifter
I had one in my 2005 996 TT and loved it. The install was pretty straightforward. I had no problems after the install. There is some suggestion that the short shifter is more prone to damage the transmission leading to the second gear popout problem. I installed mine at 5k miles, and sold the car with 25k miles and never had a problem.
I installed one in my 997tt. Relatively easy install - the B&M instructions don't correctly show how the 07 gearshift surround comes out though. No trouble shifting, even for my wife at the track. Great mod
I had the factory short shift in my 07 coupe and just installed the short shift in my 08 cab.
Together with Sirius and chip, these imho are the 'must do' mods. I thought the car was almost undriveable with the factory 'long' shifter.

I have it on my 997TT for a bout 1,200 miles now. Shifts smooth & very short throws. But it is nochy. The only problem I have with it is when I try to get in Reverse and doesnt get into gear. But after you give it a little rev and pump the clutch it gets in. Typicall symptoms of a short shifter.
