Radar detector preference
Greetings,Blue
I will be using my V1 in Europe this summer,so I will need to activate :Euro mode and Ku:have you ever programmed it?is it easy?can activating one program interfere with other ones?
Thanks

I had both 9500i and Valentine - sold the Valentine due to way too many false alerts. I like the ability to block out the alarms ,automatic door openers, and to program in known speed traps.I use the detector with a Bearcat scanner when I go on hwy trips and really like the combo. My preference is to know the alert is real rather than the direction of a bunch of false alerts. I hardwire everything into the fuse box to a switched circuit.

I have the 9500i hardwired to fuse box. False alerts are kept to a bare minimum and in most cases only once, give you can block them out with the GPS feature. I am serious thinking of upgrading the the new custom install version that as intelligent GPS blocking and laser jammin in one package ($1500). Check out Escort site for details
the very reason I sent my v1 back. the false alerts are just so annoying - Im surprised everyone puts up with it. But I guess each to their own. It may (arguably) be the best performing - but when its constantly beeping at you - just annoying. I would spend more time braking then accelerating if I kept paying attention to it.
I too have the V1 and, although I also have the Escort SR7 in my TT, I prefer the V1.
I would suggest mounting it higher--the higher, the better. It fits between the rear view mirror and the headliner, on the left side of the mirror. This allows the rear detector of the V1 to still have a view to the rear even when the driver's visor is down.
Also, you can hardwire the V1 to switched power in the overhead center console, if the car has self dimming mirrors (which I believe is standard on the 997TTs).
I just installed my V1 in my new 97TT two nights ago. Very slick.
Here is a DIY for the V1 hardwiring:

Hope it helps.
I think just using it out of the box is fine. I have it mounted just beneath the rear view mirror and I'm using the power outlet thats in the passenger foot well, it never really bothers me. You can also decide to mount it lower, just in front of the sport chrono.
Because you got the power outlet in the passenger footwell it keeps the wire completely out of the way, without that outlet being there I would admit using the cigarette lighter in the center console would have been a pain.

The benefit of the V1 is that it is incredibly sensitive and, thus, provides early warning. But, I agree, you need to program it to really see that advantage, otherwise the false alarms overwhelm.
What I have done with mine that has really reduced the false alarms is:
o Turn off X band (here in MI, it's not used)
o Turn K band mute to 30 seconds (although you will get the light indication, there won't be an audible alarm for 30 seconds, .... with the following exception

o Turn K band mute to 4 dots or above (this will mute the K band unless the signal strength is at or great than 4 dots)
Therefore, on K band, the audible alarm will be heard if the alarm has been present for 30 seconds or is 4 dots or greater in strength.
Then run the V1 in (lower case L) "l" mode. In this mode, the above special settings are used.
The programming instructions are in the manual.
For more detail on programming these settings, see this thread/forum: http://www.radardetector.net/viewtop...e2f152ce59b452

Now, get your dealer to hardwire it for you for free.
Completely agree for both front and rear maximum range detection. I had a built in Bell on my M6 mounted behind the front grill/bumper and the range was greatly affected vs visor/upper windshield mount.
