IN the back of my mind when I purchased this car for circa $134K with tax, it would be worth $75K to $85K on a trade in for my next car, say 3 years from now. If its more, great, but I dont think it will drop too much below $75K if kept pristine and serviced.

I keep cars until 6 months before the warranty period expires incase the new owner has any problems.

I would say 90% fit into this category! Especially your urban, single, under 35 crowd. The truth is most just cant afford the car and shouldn't have bought/leased it in the first place!
I always laugh out loud at the guy who pulls up in his TT and skipped obvious options simply because he couldn't afford the car in the first place. Its like buying a home and not being able to furnish it.
So you are saying since I didn't get the PCCBs, XM/Sirius Radio, Leather PCM, and some additional options that i felt were of no value to me I must be not be able to afford the car?

There is only one reason I can think of not to get PCCB, you are plus 70 have numerous cars and none of them ever hit the speed limit. If you plan on driving it, its not even a choice IMO.

Take nothing personal, where I live there are a large group of people driving expensive cars and doing so by the skin of their teeth.

Nothing is ever personal with me on this board.. Just don't talk about my momma and you are okay.

So you see no reason not to spend the money on a 8K set of brakes where the standard brakes are good enough for 95% of the drivers out there and the 5% that are great drivers - many of them have changed them back to Steel 15" G/T Brakes from Brembo? Hmmm doesn't make sense to me to change PCCB back to Steel but I guess those racers are not that good....

I can live with the brake dust for 8K trust me. Unless it gave me 20ft more stopping power(no tests have resulted in better stopping power(distance) for the ceramics). So please give me some insight on this...

Are you guys noticing how many are on the market right now and wondering why because I sure am!
Is it my imagination or does it seem like there are a lot more Cabs on the market than Coupes? That's what I see when I count up the ads anyway. Are the majority of TTs coming out of the factory Cabs these days or are Coupes just more popular?

Another thing we all forget is when the 996tt came out, there hadnt been a turbo in 4 years! Dealers were asking 40k over when it came out, and I negotiated like a bastard to end up paying 6k over. At that time 993tt's that were originally stickered at 105k new, were selling for 110k, 4 years old! The market has changed dramatically, and porsche has changed their production/marketing as well.

There are always more cars than they can sell, and a huge surplus of slightly used 996tt's for 1/2 the price of a new 997tt. If 993tt's were 60k in 01 when I bought mine, I wouldnt have even looked at the 130k 996tt.

Like everyone else has already noted, when the market goes to ****, suddenly a lot of people have to sell because "they're having a baby", and the car has to go. This is just the new american way.

Just because I did not check off every option on the list does not correlate with my ability to afford the car. You have to draw the line somewhere and then there is of course the appeal of some of the options in general.

I know plenty of guys with steel brakes and $20k in go fast mods!

Exactly, since when did owning a 997TT become an addendum pissing contest?

I didnt get to pick my car, it was an order cancellation. Did it have every single item that I wanted? No, but its tastefully appointed and Im happy- especially with the price I got.

I dont track my car and its red so I am actually glad it didnt have the PCCB.

That's idiotic... Bank like defaults? $328 Billion in write downs? Tell that the Bear Sterns employees and investors... tell that to thousands of people who no longer work for banks and financial companies due to in large part greed at EVERY part of the chain. Blaming just banks is passing up personal responsibility to a lot of people who should have known better.

Rant off
