I love getting those little drives in, Im lucky enough to be living in miami and get to rack up the miles by driving to the beach and enjoying the scene. I take out my car and its like a moving show for people, get my car is so rare I feel like a celebrity going there b/c people dont care and just get right in front of me and take pics, and stop me to ask hp and what I do haha.

I do this all the time. I usually prefer to be alone, although sometimes my good friend (a fellow car nut) comes along. I like to take my drives in the evening or on weekends, usually when its early (if I'm awake). I put my windows and sunroof down and turn off the radio, I let the sound of the engine be my audio entertainment. Although I live in Miami (we dont have many incredible roads), I have managed to put together a pretty good route. This is the time where I get closer to my car. I dont necessarily "push it," but rather I concentrate on proper technique as well as reflecting on other aspects of the car. It's my "therapy" if you will. A time where all I do is grin, and the more I accelarate, the larger the grin gets. Infact, I'm looking forward to taking a nice drive this Tuesday night. You see, I'm getting my driveway done, and the company which is doing my driveway painted it and sealed it while my car was in the garage! They say I cant take it out until Tuesday evening.

I went for a drive nowhere last week

Beautiful day and great drive. Unfortunately a 19 y.o blond airhead on her cell phone in her 15 year old chevy pickup was going somewhere and rear ended me at a light. Then I had somewhere to go - the body shop. (just a fender cover and brake light assembly, no bent metal). Cop wouldn't ticket her for the cell phone because he didn't observe it, and she lied.

I don't drive a Porsche but I do this all the time. Early winter mornings I often take 20 or so mile drives to the Porsche/Audi and BMW dealerships while listening to car talk and just enjoying my GTI. Get out, dream about what car I want to be owning in five years and just drive home. I don't usually even mind going on short suburb drives just enjoying the car. Infact I was driving with my girlfriend yesterday just enjoying her and the car and missed the turns we needed to get to a grad party...twice. She was cracking up.

I think more of us do this then not.

It's great to get up at 4 am on a saturday morning and drive til the sun rises on a back country road. The back roads on the weekend at that hour are barren and the road is yours. I have never run into LE on these roads at that hour and autobahn speeds are attainable.

A great way to start the weekend. I ve done this with all my P cars.

Great replies -- some of you guys drive nowhere in my area (Miami) . Toot the hon and wave if you see me .

Jason I posted about this on another thread but I'll say it here too. After I did the EVT700 I cherish this car so much that I would have a cow transporting it . But that's what the M3 is for and its not a slow poke . Plus the idea of hotel parking lots along the west coast sound reasonable with the M wheras with my 997tt it would tap into my neurosis .
It sound like so much fun and the photos you took are fantastic.

I see that many others posted as well and each shares this same driving enjoyment .
I have friends and neighbors who have nice cars yet I can think of only one who might do these drives . The rest use their cars more with a destination in mind . Some even view the car more as a "point A to B " type of thing .

I go out just about every night for at least a 1/2 hour drive, I like the peace of the roads at night. Just have to keep an eye out for wildlife

Its great when your area is big enough for a leisure drive around... Well.. over here in Singapore, east to west highway stretches only 36km.. .driving in town is not so enjoyable cos you will most likely have to stop at traffic junctions every 200m or so.. However i do at times love to drive nowhere esp after dinner.. the beast sounds different at night...

Absolutely drive to nowhere a lot, in fact it's my favorite destination! We have some really nice twisty roads close to where I live. Usually go late at night and the best runs are when the roads is clear up the mountain and back. Driving a 997tt anywhere is fun and hitting the road for no other reason than to just drive is what sports cars are all about in my book and why I bought a Porsche.

Y,
Many thanks for a brilliant idea for a post. You have elegantly and eloquently summed up my reasons for buying this car.
The simple joy of going on such lovely little drives,is why I chose the "European Delivery" option.
Driving around Naples is about as boring as it can get,and while driving in Miami can be exciting:Florida is not how I want to experience the first miles on my cab.
My very first miles will be on the Autobahn, with my destination being the twisty coastal roads of Normandy,in northern France.
I certainly do look forward to going nowhere...
...fast

Hi,

did 270 miles of driving nowhere today. Trying to get my car run in as soon as possible.

This car is just so addictive !. Car never missed a beat in 42 degrees heat with the temp pretty steady at 90 degrees C. Rear tires showed 46 psi tho !.

On the way home i met a GTR. Looked good but pretty big and imposing when up close.

Rgds.
