Engine compartment release? Help!

Just finished 1st oil change on my 08 turbo. Sounds fine, runs fine, oil level fine, but, my engine compartment lid will not open now. I pull the release button and it sounds normal, but lid doesn't open. Is there a hidden manual release method I do not know about? I installed my exhaust system myself a month ago without problems. I seem to remember seeing a steel cable near the left taillight/fender well and wondering what it was. Release? Any help appreciated.

That is an emergency engine compartment release. Not sure if you have to remove the tail light or not, but I think you may not need to take it out. What does the manual say about this, if anything?

Just found the cable by taking off wheel and liner. Saw edge of cable and hooked with a wire hanger...... got it. Now pulling on it with no release yet. Not sure how hard to pull? Feels like cable is not freed up enough yet?

We found it under the drivers side tail light when doing my exhaust a few weeks ago. There are only 2-3 screws holding the tail light assembly in.

Eyesurg:

After sending the response above this morning, I checked mine visually. There is a small stranded wire running from the latch on top of another tube and tied to it which terminates under the drivers side tail light assembly. God bless the engineer that thought this one up. You have to have the compartment open before you can get to the two screws holding the tail light in...and the Owner's Manual makes no mention of how to get into the engine compartment in case the latch malfunctions or the battery is dead...only the front compartment. Go figure on this one??????
