Quick Poll: How many would seriously consider a GT-R?
40% interest is surprising
So far about 10% are in the "for sure" camp and another 30% are in the "seriously consider" camp.
That's much higher than I expected.
Over on NAGTROC, out of 31 current/future GT-R owners who voted, 13 people said the have or had a Turbo. 13/31 = 42%
Not exactly a scientific method, and I'm not sure (on net) which way the biases cut, but it seems that there is SIGNIFICANT overlap in the buying populations of these two cars.

I've always wanted a 911 - and have always admired the R32/33/34 and am really warming up to the R35.
Went to see one the other day and they look much better in person but I am a little afraid of the weight/size of the car.

Hey Jody - if I can find one @ MSRP perhaps your hubby and I should talk about upgrading to a nice clean CPO 997 C2S launch edition...

I would probably also sell the S4 and my wifey would be happy about reducing the number of cars in the household...
I would definitely consider getting one. I would have to get a look at one and drive it, but there is no way I would just say "never" to getting one.
Right now though, I am very happy with the cars we have, and would not consider trading in either of our cars on one. Another car and we would have to go back to moving cars around just to get anything out of the garage.

Chris, I'm not a member of NAGTROC, but it would be interesting if you put a poll there asking:
"If you could purchase a 997TT, would you consider buying one over a GT-R"
"If you could purchase a 997TT, would you consider buying one over a GT-R"
Hi,
i actually like the look, but realise i am very much in the minority there. I would consider it, but not as a replacement for my current TT, or any other 911 for that matter.
Hats off to Nissan on what they have achieved in the GTR. It can only help to make the Porsche 911 of the future even more impressive !.
Rgds.

Chris,
Maybe someone who sets up polls for a living could chime in, but I think there is a flaw in your statistic. The overlap may not be as significant as you think.
The hundreds or however many of Turbo owners who frequent this forum & see your thread, and don't vote are more than likely "no" vote, no?
Conversely, although can't say for sure, ALL of potential Nissan owners who see this thread would most likely vote yes.
Now if you start paying so that ALL owners will vote, then the statistic would be a lot more accurate! Or instead of paying, maybe a free GT-R test drive...

I would'nt. It's powerful but it's not the "classic" type. It's something that I would buy and sell after 5 years. Not the type that you keep for decades. That is my view, other people's view will be different.

Agree that no internet poll is worth much, but I assume the 997TT fanboys are represented well enough here to outweigh no non-turbo-owning GT-R fanboy trolls. So I was figuring that the dueling biases would cancel to some extent.
Perhaps you are really wondering about "Assuming you have never owned either car before and PRICE ASIDE, if you could own just one and had to keep it for three years as your only sportscar, which would you choose?"
I think my formulation sorts through the ADHD issues some of us have (changing cars all the time / having multiple redundant cars).
I mean, I can see someone saying "been there, done that" on the 997TT and ditching it for the GT-R because it's the "new new thing." But I think you'd have to be a HARDCORE GT-R fanboy to say you'd prefer GT-R to Turbo, price aside (assuming you've never owned a 997TT). On that basis, my vote would certainly be for the 997TT.
I started this thread after HeavyChevy questioned my assertion that the GT-R was a legitimate car of interest even to Turbo owners. I think this poll proves my point.
As an aside (if we're going to talk price-- which we really should not ignore), a potentially more interesting issue is GT-R versus Cayman. Those two cars are very comparably priced and the GT-R thumps it hard on every measurable performance metric and also beats it on comfort/electronics/etc.
