My Blk 997 Turbo Is History
don't buy
i agree with this! you'd prob regret not too long after
100K from the Dealer would be killer. FWIW, I looked at a very nicely loaded 07 997TT, 800 miles, yes, 800 miles, at a Dealer, and could have picked it up for 100K.

Good dad, but I don't think you should sacrifice your hard earned money and exchange your happiness for your children's school fees. Government loans have great rates, and they'll be able to pay it off in a year when they get jobs. Besides, being out 15K for that almost penalty I'm sure you can keep the car for the remaining time of the kid's degree.
I am 100% in agreement with your call. These are just things. Relatively meaningless. Kids should not have to face huge loans while their dads and moms are in such overt items/symbols of self indulgence. My 2c. It comes down to whether or not you put your kids first. I put mine first and second and third....I am way down the list.
More power to you. I am absolutely in agreement with your decision.

^Thats the American way.
I come from an Asian family and my parents helped me out the most that they could and I will do the same for my kids. Kids education >>>> Porsche turbo. Easy choice.
This thread makes little sense.
Did you lose your job? You just figured out your kids are going to college?
Why would you consider a 15k loss to buy a older 996 and actually net a further 35k loss except to lower your payment 500 dollars, one bad repair and that savings is negated.
Walk away? you mean after you pay for the difference between what you owe and what's worth?
I don't mean to be overly harsh but this thread reeks of how this country got so screwed up to start with.
If you cannot afford the car than sell it and drive your others, because you can't afford a 996 either.

Dr. Bill, do what you have to do and don't look back. Hopefully things will be back to normal and you can get another one.
Dr. Bill-
IMHO, the dealer is not going to give you $100K unless you trade for a vehicle that they have in their inventory. The 996 TT is a great car, however, I agree with others that you won't save a reasonable amount of money unless you bail out of these cars altogether for the time being.

Is that 996 certified bumper to bumper? If not the savings you expect might not be a savings at all.
Selling at $35k loss +++ int etc. just to take on another loan that is $500 less a month doesnt seem to make much sense. You could make up that $500 a month by selling crap on ebay. If not, cut something else back. You dont really need electricity do you? Dont sell your 997 Turbo to buy someone elses used 996 Turbo. Sounds penny smart, dollar foolish. the kiddies are priority #1 but if it were based on a large $ amount each month I'd totally understand but for 500 bucks a month? I'd look at soewhere else to cut back.
I dont buy the arguement you can always get another Turbo- you never know what the future holds, you could be kicking yourself down the road for giving it up. But good luck no matter what you decide at least you're looking to do it for the right reasons.
