Dealer Installed Ipod + Sirius / Short Shifter
I may be heading down to VIR at the end of February (28th-Mar 3rd), its a long trip but well worth it, very involving and fun track.
I made it out to Watkins Glen, Summit Point, NJ, VIR and Pocono last year, got bit by the bug hard lol. If there are a couple of 6speeders heading to a track that would be cool, would be nice to caravan with a few people always enjoy looking at Porsches on the road, would make the long trips go by faster.
Personally I'd like to make it Watkins Glen as often as possible this year as its the track I feel most comfortable on, but honestly, Im gonna go as often as my schedule allows me, do you have anything upcoming planned? What organizations do you go with?

I usually go with metropca or PDA. I have a couple of friends with vettes and vipers, so pda is perfect. I'd like to hit the glen in april, also my favorite track by a long shot.
The NJ track lightning/thunder is supposed to be a copy of VIR, owned by the same guys.

If you haven't been to the NJMP tracks yet (Thunderbolt and Lightning) I would highly suggest it.
The place is really nice, the tracks are fantastic (a few small bugs to work out yet), they have a great clubhouse and restaurant too.
Membership is still very reasonable as well.
Heck of a lot closer than VIR even though I want to get down there a few times this year too (except not in February brrrrrrrrrrrrr)

I have NavTV for sirius. It works ok, but a little buggy.
This is my third 997tt. The first had short shifter from the factory and the others, I added owm ss as soon as I bought them. I consider the car almost undrivable without the ss.

I've been to Lightning for half a day, the second half rained quite heavily, havent made it to Thunderbolt yet. I dunno about Thunderbolt, but Lightning is no comparison to VIR, even if it is only 1:30 hours away from my house.
Still debating on the VIR trip at the end of February, I guess it depends on how productive I end up being at work or how much I need a pick me up to brighten my mood.
In the meantime I told the dealer to go ahead with the Sirius setup and the short-shift, definitely excited about the short shifter to see how much of a change there is in the throw. The stock shifter compared to my previous models is already so marvelous, I can't wait to see what the improvement will be like.

The same guys who own VIR own the Jersey tracks, supposedly thunderbolt is a close copy of VIR. I actualy prefer lightning btwn the two.
But I agree, the glen is king and well worth the drive. It actually took me longer to drive to/from nj motorsports park than it did to the glen bc of the horrendous nj traffic in that corridor. Plus the area is a little rough around the edges, not the quaint racing friendly community you find in watkins glen.

Definitely get more of a NYC crowd going to NJMP, which usually means worse etiquette imo.
Got the car back from the dealer yesterday, Sirius works great, absolute love it, dunno why I waited so long (26,000 miles) before putting it in.
I'm still mixed on the short shifter, the throws are definitely shorter, I wouldn't categorize it as notchy, but just that it takes more force to get them into gear, which would make sense with the shorter throw. I did go out with my AlpineStars in the morning today to keep my hands from freezing and it seemed that the shifting was smoother, so I think it will just take a week to get used to and the real test will be on the track.
I think for the track its going to be super, just gotta see how much I like it for the street.

Hey guys,
My car is in the shop for 25-30k mile service and to get the clutch slave cylinder replaced and Im debating about whether or not to add iPod and Sirius radio, as well as the short shifter.
My dealer quoted me:
$895 for iPod integration
$895 for Sirius
$770 for Porsche OEM short shift w/install
I've been checking out all the options, mObridge, NAV-TV, Denison, and honestly I've never done any aftermarket audio works and it seems like none of the units really easily provide both iPod and sirius. So I'm wondering, how much is it a rip-off to pay $1800 for both iPod and Sirius?
And is the short-shift kit worth $770? (I do track the car often, I also love the feel of the stock shifter, but wouldn't mind a shorter throw).
Should I just settle for one? (Noticing that Sirius is as repetitive as regular radio these days, maybe just do iPod)
Any advice welcome.

You'll love the shifter, it will loosen abit don't worry. I assume they did the OEM shifter(better). Do you have the ipod unit as well, I have the dennison-soso.

Im catching up
Its the OEM short-shifter, if it loosens up a bit it will be perfect.
As far as specifics on the sirius, Im not 100% but I think its by directed electronics, so whatever product they make for porsche sirius thats what was installed.
