I wanted the seats so that I can use a 5 or 6 point harness. I joined Harriss Hill track near San Marcus Texas to run my 997 turbo on and my initial advice from this board is not to use a harness bar; however I do not want a roll cage. I am not going to race the car just drive it around this 1.8 mile track. Any thoughts or advice?

hey jnixon, we're doing an RSS bar and harnesses in a GT2 next week but you could get away with the BK bar like we have in the RS... That works too....

I would say that if you are already taking the seats out put in a half cage. There are really no downsides to it besides making the rear seats unusable (Dunno how important it is to you).

As far as the positives you wont have to take out the seats again in the future when you want to upgrade, the car will be more rigid, and visibility isn't really restricted.

I've had no problems with mine.

Some people thought it was dangerous. I am not sure how much more dangerous the harness would be in a roll over if that were to happen.

I don't think PCA allows harness bars/6 pts anymore. I think when they looked at it, a std belt with stock seat offered the better support/protection than a stock seat and harness bar arrangement by a wide margin.

A harness without a roll bar is a bad move IMO. The harness bar and harness will hold you fixed in the seat as everything else collapses. The stock three point belt and seat will give enough so that hopefully you will not be crushed by the roof. Harnesses with a roll bar/ cage are fine.I would strongly suggest you read some of the past threads on Rennlist concerning this subject.
FWIW I wouldn't worry too much about HH, it's a small track and the stock belts are plenty IMO. I'll see you there!

Get yourself one of these to use on the stock belt. Not a good idea to run a harness without a proper rollcage.

Raiyu, The rear seats were already unusable to begin with. Anyway onto the topic, What was the reason for not putting in a roll cage?

You know...I actually sat in those seats for a while last weekend...I'm not sure if it is because I'm short, but I didn't find them very comfortable. Are you sure you want'em?

Jnixon --I almost bought the seats today but am doing so many upgrades that I had to draw a line in the sand. I sat in them and fit like a glove . They have aset in stock at my local P car dealership and if you can't find any PM me and I'll give you whatever info I have which might help.

If you run the stock seats the seatbelt clamp makes a huge difference. It still wont provide enough support for your legs, so you will end up bracing yourself on turns, but it will make you feel more secure and give you more feedback.

I personally didnt use a lock when I had stock seats, I just reclined my seat all the way, buckled the belt, pulled on it sharply until it locked and then put my seat back up again. This pressed me into the seatbelt and kept me locked. After a 25 min session it will loosen up soon, but overall it does help to keep you focused. It got to the point where if I left the pits without doing it I felt weird in the car.

But nothing beats proper seats and harnesses.

I can see the argument that the stock seats are safer with the stock belts than they are with a 6 point harness due to the roll-over risk. However, a 6 point harness would allow you to use a HANS device. So the next question is whether the stock seats with the stock belts are safer than a 6 point harness with a HANS device in a car without a roll cage. It's pretty easy to see how you could crash into a barrier or another car at 140+ mph on the track. So my own bet is that the risk of a sudden deacceleration on a track is much greater than the risk of a roll-over. And if so, then a HANS + 6 point is safer than the stock set up in a car without a roll cage.
