Will I ever own a Turbo?
Will I ever own a Turbo?
Hey guys, I've been on the board for sometime now, reading, listening and hoping for the day to come when I can post pics of my new 911. Anyways, here is my dilemma; I orginally wanted a 996 and had budgeted 60-70 k. Well the day has come and I'm ready, but looking at how low prices are on 997's I'm at a standstill.
Is it worth it to spend an extra 15 k for the 997 or move on a 996 today?
Thanks,
Tom

15K --not even a second thought .
I would not wait either only because if for any reason Porsche skips a year of Turbo production the used price can climb .
I would even rather have a 997S than a 996tt but that's just how much I like the refinement of the 997 above the 996 .

My thoughts are to wait and get the 997 but as all enthusiast know checking craigslist, autotrader and every classifieds add every day is not healthy
Waiting until summer may be the optimal time to buy? What is liklihood that porsche will skip
a year of production?

I think this is the best time to buy a car NOW . I have never seen such a weak economy and all those pay cuts and layoffs are bound to spark some earnings and when buyers see their 401K up a little they aren't as nervous about buying. The gloom and doom media rants can only go so far -- and those Turbos laying around collecting dust on lots are bargains.
Will Porsche skip a year ? Who knows . It's not a rare event . In model year 1999 and 2000 there was no Turbo . In Model year 2006 there aws no Turbo . It would actually be smart move on Porsches part to skip a year . After all who is going to spend 160K on a 2010 Turbo when a low mile 07 is less than 100 ? It will be less than 80 by then.
In my opinion it's in Porsches best interest to pushed the used price UP so that a new Turbo is attractive enough to be worth buying.
go for it ,i was in the same situation but coming out of a 993 tt i just couldn't pull the trigger on the 996 no matter how low they got,it just doesn't have the curves of the 997 those wide hips are just too good looking ,something the 996 tt just seems be lacking ,and something turbo's just have to have imho.
Heck there's one on ebay with a buy it now option for 78k granted it's got 42k miles but i would still take it over a 996tt

Our current political crop is about to see that no one can afford a 997TT. Or it will be required to get 40mpg. Get it before it's too late.
