911 future?
911 future?
the most people say that the rear-engine is outdated and will be soon on its limits with driving characteristics, through the physical. so will porsche go with the 911 in future for mid-engine setup? also with maybe future 911 hybrids the space in the back will be to close for that rear engine.
Rear engine was outdated 25 years ago, has not phased them yet. Clearly its not the optimum setup but the 911 is not about that, they seem to take pride in fine tuning the rear engine setup - no easy task.
Its very rewarding to drive a 911 as your abilities improve, as an enthusiast cars were boring me a bit until I picked my first Porsche up...it was like learning to drive fast all over again which IMO is the appeal of this car.
There will always be a rear engined 911 so long as people keep buying them. Plenty of power to be had and weight to lose yet.

I am pretty naive about this issue, but I still have a few thoughts of my own:
1. is it possible to make the 911 mid-engined and 2+2 by extending the wheel base and at the same time, shorten the nose?
2. How about a 1+2 car like the F1 Mclearn? 1 seat in front 2 seats in the back? mid engined?

1. sure, but it would not be a 911 then
2. doubt it, new models in general will be few and far between unless platform sharing makes it doable financially
The 911 needs nothing more than following the current trend of refinement. I dont think its ever been about being the fastest in its class or keeping up with the Joneses if you will at Porsche HQ. Its still the quirky sports car but with a bit too much pork as of late, but hell, thats what the buying public has been demanding right?
A cheaper GT3 would be nice.

the next next gen 911 will probably come out in the early 2020s.. which will probably be powered by an alternative fuel source...
