Rear Spoiler Malfunction

I was driving home yesterday and got a message like, "Rear Spoiler Control Failure" (I can't remember the exact words). I tried to manually raise the spoiler on the console when I got home and it doesn't respond. I made an appointment to take it in, and it's still under warranty, but it seems like an odd thing to fail. I've only owned the car for a week (CPO 07TT), so I was wondering if this is a common thing.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Is there oil leaking from the hydraulic cylenders? A leak is the most common problem, followed by pump failure. Servicing this unit yourself is a little painful, you need Pentosin fluid, a few wrenches, and a second person to activate the pumpt to prime the system again...I have the service manual pages if you need it, but I'd recommend sending it to your dealership. They will likely replace the entire system, as the tubing does not have its own part number.

They didn't find a leak and they fixed it by, "reprogramming". I'm not sure what they did, but it's working fine now. Thanks for the tip on the leak. I'll keep an eye on it in the future.

Thank goodness...even though it's covered by warranty, changing the hydraulics is a royal PITA. Sometimes if there is a obstruction in the hydraulics, the wing will not deploy evenly, and then it gets jammed...when the wing comes down, the computer signals a warning. If it happens again, I'd probably have them replace the hydraulics...it's very pricey to do after the warranty is up...

I have the same problem. It has failed to work and then started working again several times. Going into dealer tommorrow. Very much a PIA as you get auditory warning everytime you cross 75mph! Hope its a easy fix, no fluid noticed on mine.

Hate to bump this old thread but what was the cause of your error?

Wonder historically # times these wings malfunction??? I raise my rear wing every start up because turbo look so much better with raised spoiler. However, this issue of possible problems is now telling me to use only with >75 m/h is reached. Got enough headaches/issues/problems with my '07 turbo as it ages (+40K miles)....mass air sensor, horns, costly tire pressure sensors, premature squeaky fanbelts, starter, 2-batteries, center caps, numerous weird maintenance items, bad cat converter etc, etc.

If the system is like the 996 cars it's only a matter of time.

Mine still has very low miles but this is why I purchased a warranty for another 4 years when my original expired. Sure sometimes nothing goes wrong but when the little things do they are expensive so worth the peice of mind IMO.

Ari, the hydraulic cylinders themselves are designed differently, and the pump, while made by the same OEM company, is also different.
