I signed in just to say, me too.
Even if I buy next gen 911, I would still keep this car. "Incomparable."

So I won't go as far as saying that I am going to keep it forever, but in order for me to upgrade, the new model would have to have something more than pdk and extra power.
I would have two Porsches then. In fact my current M3 was almost a 997S but I opted for space.

My Turbo is a garage queen . I can accept another Porsche as a daily driver , maybe keep it stock or modestly customized but not to the level of my current car which took so much effort and thought.

Maybe that's part of the emotional attachment. So often in my life I have done things for others but with this car it was something entirely for myself .

ditto, with 700-750hp and suspension mods to match not much Porsche comes out with the next gen and maybe the next 10 years will be able to keep up. i have a Boxster SE as a dd, i great car light and nimble but it's NO tt! only car i might entertain & have a look is the LP560-4 spider or a REAR drive next gen Superleggera!

I won't jump the fence for a Ferrari . I've watched too many technicians facing too many unnecessary hurdles . Porsche has everything organized .

Porsche and this 997Turbo is "the one" . In fact I have been driving Porsches longer than any of my marriages .

I say "forever" and maybe it can't be thus the disclaimer -- a hurricane or some type of adversity might effect the reality but the loss would be enormous ... irreplaceble even with another 997tt . This specific car has my heart in it . It was the first that I ever took to this caliber and pampered like this . It's not about the cost , it's the emotion as I would sit waiting to hear my new exhaust or take my first drive on the new clutch . The imact it made in my life is that significant that it has touched a special place in my heart more than any material thing I have ever owned .

It would be easy to keep a 911 longer than some other cars. Porsche does an excellent job at making only subtle cosmetic changes between generations. This keeps the older models still looking great. I feel the 997 is the best looking generation yet. It will be hard to top.

Just read an interesting article by P J O'Rourke titled "Cars: The end of the affair. I guess the bottom line is that if you want a any high performance automobile, you'd better get it soon and hang on to it. I'm hanging on to my Cab. Big "O" will have to pry it of my cold, dead fingers.
