WTB 997TT Coilovers, Need Advice

I am interested in purchasing some coilovers to lower my 2009 997TT. I do not want to use springs. I have 20” Techart Wheels and want to close the gap between the tires and the fenders. I am looking for some advice on which set would be right for me. I have tried to search “Coilovers” but came up with limited information on the 997TT. My only exposure to coilvers was on my Honda S2000. I went with Mugen and they were amazing. Ride was better than stock and the car rode like it was on rails. My car is a daily driver, I do not track it. Roads in WI are pretty rough so I do not want anything too stiff or punishing.

Here are my main requests
1.) Stock or better ride (most important).
2.) I have PASM on my car (not required).
3.) My budget is capped at $4,000.
<O</O
Looking for any input or recommendations. Thank you.

Find somebody with a set of Bilstein PSS10/B16 coil overs, they are not over the top but definitely stiffer than stock.

Bilstein B16s with PASM. Had them installed over a month ago and love them. I would recommend going no lower than an inch all the way around.

pm sent. Thanks for the offer!

Also, thanks imcarnuts. I appreciate the link. I did read cannga's review of the coilovers. It is very thorough and answered alot of my initial questions. I would have purchased the bilsteins already but my only concern was where he wrote "Bilstein can't perform a miracle; you will sense more road bumps. However, the feel is vastly superior to the jittery ride of PASM-Firm ". I hate the PASM-Firm mode. The car becomes becomes too bouncy for me. I guess I will get a ride with bbywu and see how much more bumpy the ride gets. Again the roads in WI are terrible. I love the car as-is today but do not want to make a change that negatively impacts my enjoyment of the car.

Thank you for your inputs.

btw - Seems like Bilstein is a very popular option for the 997TT.

scont07tt is infamous around these parts
i got the techart springs very happy with them i think it rides better and it lowers the car 15 mm . Also the sport ride is not as harsh and well within your budget if your not tracking thats all you need.

Hi there,

Very nice of Bob to offer you a ride. Hope it works out for you.

I tend to over-emphasize the negative points because I think they are more important and helpful than positive ones. So yes it is stiffer but because the damper is set differently and is better, it's stiffer in a very good way and IMO is not nearly as bad as what I wrote may imply. The improvement by Bilstein shines brighter over time, and you may not notice much on this test run (I certainly did NOT on my test drive with a friend's car.), especially of course you are not going to go all out on a canyon run for a couple of hours (Or are you?! ). For me, the transformation is so startling that it remains my number one mod (over ECU, wheel, exhaust, PCCB brake). So much so that I would say that if you find my comments about stock car on that Bilstein thread to be applicable, you really don't have a choice but to try. Just kidding. Ok... half kidding.

PASM Stock FIRM is a flaw design IMO (softer spring, sky high compression damping). You will find the PASM Bilstein FIRM has an entirely different quality and feel (stiffer spring, correct compression damping). The key is in the different damper setting of the Bilstein, not just stiffer spring.

Once and if you go ahead with the Bilstein, remember you must set tires to Porsche's recommended: Partial Load, and +0 on the TPMS. (In California weather, my car for example reads 31 front/ 37 rear in the morning before I drive, and settles at 33/39 after a 15 minute commute.) Frequently enough, I've found tire over-inflation to be the error that causes complaint.

Good luck and have fun!

Bilstein is an excellent entry level coilover to consider, if you have a budget of 4K i would recommend to go with KW, JIC or Motons.. they are much superior to B16's. I have tried them all... hands down, Motons... Good luck with your search!!

cannga - Thanks for the excellent write ups! I did read your reviews and I appreciate the fact that you were thorough and did focus on some negatives(not all positives). That gives me realistic expectations. I will ride with bbywu and let you know my impressions of the ride quality.

KA 997TT - I thought about Motons as well but figured that they were out of my budget. Did you get your Sport Clubs for $4K from VIVID Racing? My local dealer was much higher, especially after I added springs.

jahnke - I have the Bilstein instock and the JICs. The Moton with all the parts you need, springs, blah blah come out to around $7000. For your parameters and requirements, go with the PSS10.

The PSS10 is porbably the most popular setup for the 997tt. Cannga's thread regarding the PSS10 is by the far the most extensive and informative. At $4000 budget, I think the KW V3's might be a good choice also. Setups like the Motons and JRZ's can be overkill for what you are looking for.

Thanks Mike, those PM's to you finally paid off. Really, I am just reposting, collecting, and learning info from the guys ahead of me.
