Porsche unveils facelifted 2010 Turbo!
Casey-
So do you think Porsche has resigned itself to the GT2 ranks in racing? Even there they seem to be uncompetitive now against the Ferraris. With the advent of the 458 Italia, which will be homologated, then we may really be at a disadvantage - any thoughts?

I saw one in the neighborhood today and really confused now. Aren't they supposed to be out i November? Or maybe it was turbo with retrofitted LED tail lights? I'm pretty sure that it was Turbo body with new LED tail lights.
BostonRocket-
Sorry for the late response. The new Turbo DFI engine is a wet sump engine, unlike the reliable racing 'dry sump' Metzger engine of current models.
No matter what hand-waving Porsche says about the new engine, according to Alois Ruf, it is not as strong an engine (see previous post on this thread).
Cheers- Gerry

Thanks for clarifying. Your correction to my comment has made me feel even better about my one 1.5 week old 997.1TT! Dry sump all the way!

Just to clarify, the M97A91 block uses "integrated dry-sump" for its oil supply. The oil reservoir is located inside the engine, not externally the engine it replaces. Four oil pumps remove the oil from the cylinder heads directly into the oil sump, with an additional pump in the oil sump directly supplying oil to the engine. An electronically controlled oil pump supplies oil when it is required. This means that the oil pump does not work so hard when there is less demand. The benefits of this "on-demand" system supposedly increased fuel efficiency and lower exhaust emissions.
Why couldn't they just have put 600 p.s. in, that would level the playing field...for once!!! Com'mon Porsche step it up, 20 ponies?
My new 2010 E63 I just ordered will have more H.P. than the TT ???

The fun continues with a reprogrammed Porsche Traction Management system that distributes torque between the front and rear differentials via an electric multi-plate clutch. Still not convinced? The PSM (Porsche Stability Management) has been re-calibrated to provide more thrills. New RS Spyder rims are also available to decrease unsprung weight. In a word, yes please.
I am really glad they didn't add the red strip between the tailights like the 09 carrera 4's. I love the RS wheels. As for the GT1 vs the A91, to me that doesn't matter as I dont plan to modify the engine or go racing. On another note, I saw some of the pictures and I love the meteor gray with red leather, that has always been my favorite color combo. For the people that are complaining that the 2010 Turbo should have come with 700hp+ from the factory, have you considered drivability, long term durability?
I for one am not impressed with the devolution of the turbo. Sure it has some new gadgets, but it's sole is gone. They should be congratulated for making a more efficient/greener, cheaper engine but that's about all. If they lowered the price by 25k(what they're saving with the consumer grade engine), then I would be more excited.
Sorry porsche, I'll have to pass. GT3 guys; don't get too psyched, you're next for the 9A1 in 2011.
The aftermarket has to be loving those p40 style wheels and the standard ipod interphase, about all you can do is an exhaust I'll bet. Any ecu tweeks will probably be difficult and ill advised.
Off my soapbox. The king is dead, long live the king.

i think there is absolutely no need to bury the new (non-GT1) TT engine alive.
i would recommend to wait and see before constantly nagging about upcoming Turbo Versions not carrying the old engine.
even if it doesn´t have the potential of a GT1 engine, i am sure that it will be reliable enough for 99% of the 911 customers and the rest can stick to their beloved GT1, no problem.

According to Auto Blog, the prices are up 25K on the new 2010 TT!?!??!!?!? I gathered this from the first link posted in this thread.
I am very happy with my 08, I have the mods I want on it and very pleased.

Well, they're supposedly a retro-fit on the new GT3, so I can't imagine the mounts being that crazy to replace or repair. A tech can drop the engine pretty quickly. Also, I would assume that there are similarities between PASM and the DE Mounts general operation. PASM holds up real well.
