IDP Plenum bracket problem

I keep having the (first) bracket come loose from my IDP plenum with the resulting leak causing a huge loss of boost (barely drivable). I keep tightening it and it keeps coming loose. I replaced the bracket with a larger one but still the same thing happens. P-Dealer says it's because of the extra boost from my 620 kit - and there isn't much of the "hose" for the bracket to tighten around on the plenum. Seems odd as I've not heard about anyone else having this happen.
Any thoughts or advice? Help!

My car has a similiar power output as yours and I am not having that problem. How long have you had the Plenum? Has it always been a problem since you got it installed?

I have put on about 6K miles or so during the 6 months of daily driver, road trip, and track driving. I'm not an aggressive driver and while I step on it on the track (only 4 track days so far) I don't often get to do this in daily traffic but that's when I've had the problems. I usually drive in sport mode. I didn't have a problem during the first 3K miles - I'm sure there is an explanation and it can resolved - especially you and so many others have it and have had no problems.

I like your sense of humor. With your 700 kit I can't even image what it's like to drive - talk about POWER! You're right - I don't think you need any more. Enjoy.

I was really trying to say that if you leave this part stock, you will be fine. But i am now curious to find out what's wrong... i am not too familiar with your set up but could this be a boost issue??? heat build up???? again, i am new to this just like you.

I had the same issue, you need to replace the rubber connecting piece on the side that's giving you problems and the clamp. I have done it with no issues. My car is tuned by RUF and after replacement no leak occurred.

Good luck

Thanks to all

Many thanks to all who have contributed to solutions to my plenum problem - and so promptly! I was amazed how many private emails I got - from RSS - and even the guy who designed the plenum (who I got to talk with on the phone -wow), Tunerworks, Buzz, etc. While not many have experienced this I thought I would list the ways to resolve this in case you or someone you know has the experience.

1. The inside of the hose and plenum gathers a minute coating of oil over the miles which can make for a "slippery" connect if you have to reconnect the hose. So you need to really clean the inside of the whole hose and outside of the plenum to have the original sticky-like feel to the hose so it holds to the surface of the plenum. Or, like I'm doing, buy an new hose and clamp (about $100). Also I was told to take care when tightening the clamp to make sure it doesn't "twist" as you tighten it leaving a small cramp in it compromising its holding ability. And make sure it's tight!
2. The hose has an inner lining which can develop a small tear should it come off so it needs to be carefully checked - buy a new one.
3. The plenum is not the problem and should hold lots of boost - like the 700 kit guys.

I hope this helps - I'm going to have mine done next month!

What a great forum - thanks all!

Kafka
