Engine Revs High on Start Up

Periodically my 08 engine races on start up. I always have it at idle on shutdown but it will intermittently race to a high revolution for about one second on start up. Any ideas?

normal, mine does it to. typically a dirty throttle body may cause it, mention it to the dealer and they will clean it.

Mine does it ever so slightly. Throttle body clean. Nothing to worry about.

Can't that be bad for the engine? Mine does that too, from time to time. Spoke with Porsche, they have no clue, and wanted me to reproduce it. Everyone who has it knows, that that is impossible.

From a cold start it's normal on virtually any car I think.

My 996 never, ever did it. I just can't believe it's not hard on an engine.

I can say that it might not be too bad as we are using dry sump engines (not a mechanic, i am just trying to explain out loud) it requires a bit of a kick to get everything started. Todd at EVOMS placed my idle engine speed at 800 rpm, ever since, it has been reduced to a lesser kick and it does not rev up as much. you may want to venture into this.
At the end of the day here is what I have to say:

We are running 500, 600, 700+ HP kits on those GT1 engines, why would we be concerned about it revving a bit high on start? is it really going to cause anymore damage than we you hit it and produce 20+ pounds of boost?
I am not sure how to better explain my theory but I hope this helps us better get into different angles of the debate.
