3 possible turbo purchases, which one would you buy if any?
3 possible turbo purchases, which one would you buy if any?
I've been searching for a turbo for about a month or so now and have narrow it down to the following 3. Please let me know which one you would purchase if any and why.
1. 2008, 11KMI, Black/Grey, w/ $149 MSRP for $92,500 shipped.
Pro: Optioned the way I want and the price seems more than fair. Had a friend inspect the car and gave it a 8-9 out of 10.
Con: DME showed level 5 while in the trade-in dealership's possession. Not planning on keeping forever, but will be modding it and don't want to have any issues with the dealer... Same color as my previous turbo.
2. 2008, 5KMI, White/Black w/ $144 MSRP + Tubi Exhaust w/quad tips, Evo Headers, 360 Wheels, and springs for $106,000 shipped.
Pro: Optioned the way I want and the price seems fair considering what I can sell the exhaust and wheels for. Headers and springs won't be worth removing. Figured I can get $6000 back if I sell the wheels and exhaust. Private party/no DME readout as of yet. Different color than my last turbo so it would feel semi-new to me
Con: Price higher than what I would considered a GREAT DEAL. Have to sell some of the aftermarket parts to re-coup price paid for car and seller does not have stock wheels any longer. Younger brother also has a WHITE TURBO.
3. 2009, 9KMI, Black/Black w/ $135 MSRP + some factory carbon fiber pieces installed after purchase for $105,500.
Pro: 2009 so warranty will last a little longer than the 08's and Private Party. Complete front end clear bra (not sure the quality though). Semi-Local to me so I can pick up and personally inspect and drive back. Price seems also very fair!
Con: NO ADAPTIVE SEATS, only option missing that I would really prefer to have.
4. NONE, wait it out since weather is getting bad soon, 2010's coming out and price should drop more soon...

Get the '09 - Option 3. The updated PCM with satellite radio and bluetooth integration is a plus. The fact that it is semi-local is a big plus as well, as there won't be any shipping costs and you can inspect the car personally. Also, given your intent to mod the car, I would steer clear of the '10 for now, as nobody really knows as of yet to what extent the DFI engine can be modded.
Get the 09
My opinion...the 09s will have the best long term value
ie the 1997 993s always sell for more than the prior years as it's the last of the air cooled...this will be the last of the GT1...

im leaning towards the 09 also simply because the seller lowered the price to $100K, interior has center console, ebrake, shift ****, and door handles in CF also. Will be taking a look at it this weekend and hopefully will be a turbo owner soon again! Will keep you guys posted and please keeping on voting please.
o, im not interested in purchasing a 2010 just figured the 997.1's prices will take an additional dip once the 2010's are released.
The DME readout basically tells us how many times the car over revs and to what extent. Car #1 has been overreved to level 5 with 6 being the highest.

Wow does anyone know how high you must go for a level 5? I thought it only went up to level 3 and even that I thought should be avoided. Would be good to talk to them and try and see who is the most flexible with pricing. Especiallyif they know that you are serious.
I say go for the 09, I have an 07" and do not have Bluetooth and ipod integration. I did upgrade to sat radio, it was not cheap.
As far as the over count showing a 5, this would count the car out for me, mechanical over rev.s are just the type of thing that will void your warranty and F&%^ up your car.
Best of luck, show picks after your purchase.
